Hello,
Since I've had my Sager 5793, on occasion, the screen will stay in a sort of power saving "dim mode" even when I have the power plugged in. Often shutting down the pc and turning it back on will fix this. Today it took a few tries, though. In normal conditions, it will be dimmed when I unplug the pc and than brighten up when I plug it back in.
I have PowerMizer set to disabled in the Nvidia control panel and I have always on set in Windows control panel->power options. Am I missing something?
The AC power supply is plugged in and it's green light on when this happens. Also, the battery claims to be charging rather than discharging.
Thanks for any info on this!

Did you check this option?
Make sure it on max brightness if you use it, if not, uncheck it.Attached Files:

Hmm, odd. I only have the powermizer settings there, not the smart dimmer. Driver is Sager 167.43 if that matters.
-
Try pressing 'Fn+f8' or 'Fn+f9' One of those should increase the brightness. Also does moving the screen up and down affect the brightness at all? You may also consider reinstalling the video driver.
-
Thank you both for the replies.
I don't think moving the screen makes any difference.
I thought my screen was at max brightness now but I tried fn+f9 and it got even brighter! Didn't know about that option before!
I take it this is different than the Nvidia control panel brightness option?? -
hotkey manually increases wattage to the bulb

Thanks! That's pretty cool

Fn+f1 turns on/off the toutchpad
Fn+f2 turns on/off he monitor
Fn+f3 mutes/unmutes
Fn+f4 goes into sleep mode
Fn+f5 decreases volume
Fn+f6 increases volume
Fn+f7 (not sure what that does)
Fn+f8 decreases screen brightness
Fn+f9 increases screen brightness
Fn+f10 does nothing
Fn+f11 turns wireless on/off
Fn+f12 does nothing
Hope that helps. -
If you want your screen to stay at full brightness, do as I did :
Unplug the power cord, and while on battery, increase the brightness with Fn+F9 to the desired one.
Plug your power cord back, and the next time you unplug it, it should be at the value you set above.
Make sure Powermizer is disabled and that you don`t have any auxiliary app that improves battery life. -
what are the default brightness settings like? when i take this out of the box, am i going to have to go through different settings to tell it not to go dim on battery power? And if so, it will need to be done through nvidia, not just control panel -> power options?
-
Well, as long as powermizer will be disabled, you won`t have to do much, out of the box,but increase it manually on battery for the first time.
My HPNX9420 has a built in sensor and if I turn it on, it automatically adjust brightness levels, but since the 5793 doesn`t have it, it should stay as it was set. -
Fn+f7 switches between inbuilt display, inbuilt+external, external only
Fn+f10 enables/disables webcam - unlabelled
Fn+f12 enables/disables bluetooth (if you have it) - unlabelled -
@theriko is correct.
Although, it seems that not all the settings I mentioned work.
Weird,it`s almost like when unplugging the power cord, the screen goes to 3/7 brightness regardless of what I do now.
And I swear,it worked before... -
The problem for me was that when it dimmed like that, it wouldn't go back to normal unless I powered the pc off and on a few times after plugging it back in. I thought maybe something (hardware?) was amiss. The issue is so intermittent.
Do you have this happen at all? -
Well, most of the times I use Fn+F8 and Fn+F9 to adjust the brightness.
But whenever I plug in the power cord, brightness goes to max. -
Thanks - That's what it should do
Wonder why mine doesn't always. Maybe I need to ask Xotic/Sager. -

For battery saving.
But I think bluetooth and the camera are turned off at shutdown/restart.
Screen stays dim even when plugged in at times
