    Yo yo and thrice yo.

I have a dead 17-inch clevo lappie, it's one of these:

And have just bought a cheapo Dell Inspiron 1720 to tide me over. Does anyone know if the screen from the Clevo is compatible with the Dell - both are 17inch.

The Dell has the 8600 GT discrete graphics and can be optioned with a 1920 x 1200 screen, but the one I have is the ****ty 17-inch 1400 x 900 panel. The Clevo has a fairly nice 1680 x 1050 panel. Do all these screens just use standard LVDS interfaces and have standardised mounting etc?

    Thanks!

Oh, and I'm guessing the 7900 GTX from the clevo is totally proprietary not some kind of swapable MXM card I can use in the Dell?

    Welcome to NBR PainWithJane! :)

Well, i'm curious to find out the (definite) answer to your question too! But the simple answer should be YES! You'll have to take apart the displays but that is very simple... 7 screws on the clevo (it looks like) and the 1720 has 6... just fully remove the screen fromt he clevo as its dead anyways... the mountings are all universal and the connections usually are too.

As for the vid cards: Absolutely not... The dell card i know is proprietary and im reasonably sure the clevo is as well.

The dell card is proprietary and usable only in Dell notebooks, whereas the one from Clevo is MXM,and interchangeable between more than just Clevo notebooks. Or it is supose to...

In practice I have never seen video cards be able to go in different brand laptops MXM or not. As far as the monitor goes if the dell inverter cable plugs in to it you should be able to use it.
