I'm thinking about selling my NP8662 and was wondering whether or not I should include my copy of Windows 7 with the sale. If I do I will need to purchase another copy for my new PC, that will set me back $99. So the question is, will including the OS increase the resale enough to cover the purchase?

First of all if it is an OEM version even if you bought it third hand (i.e. newegg.com), then legally, it should go with the machine. If it came with the laptop, then most definitely it should stay. If it's a retail upgrade or full version then you can install it on another machine.

You definitely won't recover the $99, but it will add a little resale value.

BTW, fellow Michigander here... metro Detroit area.

It is a full retail copy of window 7 home premium. In which case it sounds like keeping it and selling the NP8662 without an OS would be more cost effective.

You'll potential lose that $99 either way, because your asking price will then need to reflect the lack of OS.

But he won't have to deduct $99 from the price. You can offer the OS for $50 or $60 if they want it, that way you will only be out $40-$50 for a new copy.
