All of a sudden the LCD went very dim and you could hardly make out the screen. I turned up the contrast and brightness levels to full and managed to limp along for a couple of days to finish some assignments that needed to get done.

I then initiated an RMA request with Sager since when I bought the 5793 in 2/08, I got the 3 year warranty along with it. I thought the most likely reason for the bad display was a bad inverted and least likely was something wrong with the LCD cable or something along those lines.

Since my college classes were due to start up again in two weeks, I shipped it back to them next day air and was willing to pay for next day air back instead of waiting for 3 day select.

I also asked them to clone and install a 500GB drive I bought with the intention to replace the 200GB drive that I first got with the notebook but for some reason, I never could get the 5793 to see the drive. It was only $45 to have them do it so it was worth the money. They also upgraded the bios from .12 to .13bS. I'm surprised they are still doing bios updates for a notebook that is considered EOL. It would be interesting to know what the change logs are for this bios.

I am very pleased with the work Sager did and the ten day turnaround was about what I expected.

While I may not get my next notebook from them since they do not offer monitor accident insurance, this experience was quite positive.

    Mike

Are you saying even though you had a 3 year warranty, it does not apply to the LCD because you need to have accident insurance? What was the point of the extended warranty?

Accident insurance covers things like if the LCD is damaged because of a fall rather than a defect in workmanship or a faulty part.

Regular warranties only cover part and workmanship defects but do not cover damages due to accidents but accident insurance will cover those events.

Sager does not offer accident insurance while, for example, Xoticpc, does.
