I recently bought a pre-owned Clevo P177SM-A and since it has separate mic and headphone ports, I had to get a female to 2x male headset adaptor so it would work with my headset. However, the computer doesn't register any noise from the mic and only sound comes through to the headset. The mic and splitter aren't the issue, does anyone have any ideas???

That unit doesn't have its own independent microphone jack? What was the need for a 3.5mm splitter?

To split their headset single input to dual input. If the inputs each work fine by themselves then the issue is likely the splitter.
-
But the splitter works on my brothers computer...

OK that's information best included in the OP. What about using a dedicated mic, does that work?
-
I said that at the start, lmao. Plugging anything into the mic does nothing. If you listen to the mic, all you hear is what comes through the speakers; it's really weird.
-
When I say listen, I mean through the mic properties. However, no green bars are seen.

Are you using the audio device drivers designed for the notebook in question?. Sometimes the wrong driver version will cause weirdness like this, and the audio drivers that are included with Windows (or through Windows Update) are known to cause this kind of malfunction. That's what I would check into next if you are not using the driver Clevo provided for the laptop. That's not to say you cannot use a different driver at all, but for troubleshooting use the driver that was intended for it.
-
Yes, the original drivers are being used and the mic is selected as default.

No, no, no, this is for a dedicated mic; the internal mic works perfectly.
-
Any external mics don't work, with or without an adaptor.
-
Mic port is loose, thanks for all the help. Nothing I can do.
-
Ah, that makes sense; one of the port's pins is loose, so part of the data is lost. You can fix it by resoldering (or have a shop do it for you).

Yes, they are fairly large and common parts so should be easy to replace by a decent shop.
Separate mic and headphone ports won't work with Mic/Headset splitter
