Seriously considering replacing N2090 with NP8662 but...

How much of a difference is there going to be? I'm somewhat short on cash, and somehow I doubt that the old bird is going to be worth very much at this point

Yes and no. I can play most things at decent resolutions and medium graphics, but there are some things where it just slows to a crawl regardless of what I do (Crysis games, Supercom:Forged Alliance).

I'm thinking that might be a CPU or GPU limitation, but I just don't know enough about the differences to be able to tell on my own.

definitely a GPU limitation since the games you listed are quite GPU intensive... that and they are notoriously poorly-coded to not fully utilize everything a system has to offer as compared to other new games that look great and perform much better with your setup.

Yeah, I know those games aren't the most efficient, but they're certainly fun :p

So if I were trying to sell the old machine about how much would it be worth? It's in mint condition, but short-ish on RAM (2GB).

And I guess the next question is do we know if/when we're getting a 1680x1050 matte screen option? My eyes just aren't good enough for 15" 1920x1200, but I really don't like glossy screens :D
