My Sager NP9370 is no the way and I would like advice on how to set it up. I know XOTIC PC could set it up for me but I want to learn enough to do it my self. I have taken several laptops apart, changed MoBo and other parts, and replaced hinges but have only looked at BIOS fan/clock settings and CPU and GPU tuning software.

The Sager NP9370 description from the factory mentions Operating System Redline Boost. I use Razer Game Booster. Does this get similar results? If not, where can I find a guide to "Redline Boost" my operating system?

Another line talks about Overclock my system. I assume this means the CPU and GPU. Where can I find a guide specific to my type of system for Overclocking for performance and stability? Recommended tuning software.

There is also a line about Professional Monitor Color Calibration. Where can I find a guide for this?

since you have SSD, i doubt if the redline boost will make any noticeable difference. for GPU overclock, i use MSI afterburner. dont think you can overclock the 3840qm although i am not sure.

the 3840's multiplier can be unlocked. only the 3610/3630 have a locked down multiplier.

    - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro THX 24-bit External USB Sound Card

Why do you need an external USB card when you get the Creative X-Fi MB2 bundled with your laptop?
    I'd say save the cash!

Thanks, does MSI have a good help section included or is there a guide for getting started recommended?

The Monitor calibration will help when it comes to viewing images, videos, doing graphic design work, etc... on your screen. For gaming, it'll have little impact as most games are made to use lower color gamuts than what the default screens boast, The screen itself will be able to display more colors, but if the game isn't designed to use those colors, they'd essentially be wasted if all you're doing is playing those games.

Edit: I mistook the original question. The monitor calibration will make the colors look more accurate no matter what it is you're doing. Typically only suggest it for those in the graphic design field though due to the normal calibration looking just fine when color accuracy isn't crucial.

Would there be any performance advantage to using the 500GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 3) as an external eSATA and unplugging it when playing games?

As opposed to what in particular? Having it installed internally?

I edited my response above to actually answer your question. Windows has a built in calibrator, but if you want the best results you'll want to use a hardware calibration tool such as the Spyder Elite 3. You can also find calibration profiles floating around online for your particular screen and see which looks best for you.

yes, if installed internally it would be drawing power. If external, I could unplug the eSATA plug. Do not need the storage all the time.

I see what you're getting at. Using a mechanical drive through Esata is definitely an option if you were concerned about power draw. The mechanical drive data throughput will be the same internally or externally through Esata.

Mechanical drives in laptops will typically not be powered until accessed, rather minimally powered, so the difference in battery will be negligible when it's not being accessed.

    Exactly so.
My laptop has a HDD in the ODD bay, you can always power it down, or use software to eject it so it doesent consume energy.

The benefit of E-Sata drives is versatility. You can use them to transfer stuff from multiple PC's.
Depends on your needs. If you want an E-Sata drive instead of integrating one in the laptop itself, go for it.

Ive got a 2TB Custom Case (modded it) USB 3.0 drive and Ive been using it for years now. Great versatility trough multiple PCs.

A new version 9370-3D was posted today as the 120Hz screens require a different MoBo.

So my gamer tendency won out over the video and photo editing and I went with:

    Display 17.3" FHD Sager (16:9) 120Hz 3D "MatteType" 72% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080) (No Emitter/Glasses) (SKU - S1R556

Still good colors but with 120Hz 3D. May still benefit from calibration. It says no emitter/Glasses. The other option:

    17.3" FHD Sager (16:9) 120Hz 3D "MatteType" 72% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080) (w/ 2 Pair of NVIDIA 3D Glasses) (SKU - S1R555)

comes with 2 Pair of NVIDIA 3D Glasses (version 1).

So is the emitter included in the first choice? I want to buy version 2 glasses on my own but not sure if the emitter is built in to the first choice.

These screen choices are nVIDIA version 1 with no light boost. Will it help to turn up the brightness in games to compensate somewhat for the dimming effect of the 3D glasses?

Computer is in the mail but there was a last minute hitch partitioning the SSD. I had the technicians send it out as is rather than push the delivery until after the 2 day holiday and weekend.

Apparently the windows system would not allow the windows partition to shrink smaller than 100GB. I want to shrink it to 80GB. Why would this happen? What should I try when the computer arrives?

What about making a mirror copy of the drive, wipe the drive, and copy the mirror back into a smaller partition?

Buy an Xrite Colormunki Display, this is suppose to be the best low budget calibrator. I have one too, and I'm very satisfied. Calibrating is done automatically, and takes about 5 minutes.

Yes I believe the emitter is built in. You wont find a machine that is 3d vision and 3d glasses but without an emitter as they are designed for plug in and go.
