First off, the thumbnail attached is the temp for my laptop when it is basically in idle, for a laptop, is this normal?

Second. I'm going to be doing a decent amount of traveling with my new laptop and I want it 100% protected in a carrying case. The laptop bag that came with it is too thin for my liking, any suggestions?

And third, I currently have a score of 10,790 in 3dmark06 (Check my basic system specs in my sig). I am running 175.95 drivers. Any suggestions for getting my score to 11k?

    Thanks for your help,

    -Ryan-

Those CPU temps seem to be just fine, based on what I've seen around the forum.

I'm looking into that right now, I'd be getting the briefcase version. Would you say its padded enough that if I dropped it from a height of ~3 feet with the laptop inside, chances are nothing would be harmed? And do you use the Targus XL?

I would have gotten the Targus XL if I found it first.

I am using a Kensington Contour Backpack... I had to modify the notebook pocket for this thing to fit.... while most other 17" notebooks (non-SLI) fit fine.

Speaking from advice, I bought the Targus XL about a year ago, right after I bought my D901C.

I've stuffed it to overflowing on numerous occasions and have been using it fully loaded for the past year, traveling at least once a month.

It's been a great backpack for my D901C. I highly recommend it.

Another question... I was just running Everest and looking at all my info... And I'm sure this is just another laptop fact I don't know, but what's up with my CPU clock (see attached thumbnail)? It's saying it's clocked at 2.0Ghz, when it should be 2.6Ghz. It seems like it is at 2.6, but I was just wondering why it said that.

Use RMclock to get a better CPU monitor.

Does it underclock dynamically to save power?

    Yup.

I use RMclock to downclock and undervolt my D900K... helps heat and power consumption. :)

Alright cool, was worried there for a sec... I'm pretty inexperienced with laptops, I've just stuck strictly to desktops before my np9262.

I've noticed the same with my processor. I believe it downclocks itself when not in a demanding application to save on heat. Try running a game and then that in the background, watch it change.

See, this is my CPU-Z reading.

just set RMclock to "Performance on demand" for battery and when AC is plugged in.

then you do not have to worry about it, it will be dynamically throttled for what you are doing.

To increase your 3dmark score it's best to overclock your graphics card, rather than the processor.

I use AtiTool (it's not just for Ati cards despite its name).
Experiment with the clocks, first increase the gpu clock, making sure you don't get yellow dots when you test with the revolving furry cube.
Then increase the memory, bit by bit... and test with the cube again.
When you have a stable oc, run 3dmark.

Do I need to worry about overheating, and I have never overclocked a GPU, do you know a guide I can follow?

Well, yes you have to be careful on the temperatures. Sorry though I'm not an authority on notebooks, I built my own desktop and overclocked it... but I have zilch idea on notebooks!

how are you able to use Ati tool as the Gfx overclocking does not work when using software based overclocking..? i have tried using ati tool and failed thats why i went towards a Bios based overclock

 That's why I said I am clueless on notebooks :p
I never tried oc'ing a laptop (never owned a laptop!) and had no idea software-based programs didn't work. I've always worked on desktops before.

yeh i have overclocked my desktop too. but thats throught the bios.

with the 9262 you cant use software overclocking since the bios has been locked down. so the only possible way is to bios flash the graphics cards eeprom

You mean the bios of the graphics card...

I mean, the CPU can be overclocked through the bios I hope?

I have my E4300 desktop overclocked from 1.8Ghz to 3.0Ghz.

I was hoping, temperatures permitting, to achieve 3.0Ghz on the Q9450 as well -- it'd be a minor OC from 2.66 to 3.0Ghz...

no the quad chips ranging from my Q6700 to your new Q9450 cant be overclocked on this machine. the bios wont allow it. the only chips that can be overclocked are the dual cores using the SetFSB method. there is a thread on this.

the Q6600 is the only chip so far that can be overclocked on this machine. however that requires you take the cpu out and short out 2 pins on the actual CPU itself. risky bizness if you dont know what u are doing.

the graphics card is overclocked using the flash bios method(yes that means flashing the bios to another with different clock settings as per my signature). there is also a thread on this but i can also send you details on flashing the bios i you want.

yeh i have overclocked my desktop from 3.2ghz to 3.8ghz. its an old Dual core the 840D series. :D

Awwww, I wanted to OC this baby. I guess I gotta learn how to flash the bios. Difficult stuff? Or relatively easy?

You can OC the video in notebooks (with software), but its extremely rare to be able to OC the CPU.... especially in these Clevo D900 series.

The D900 series is using a hybrid desktop/mobile platform... which 3rd-party OC programs cannot successfully detect to OC the CPU. And there is no BIOS options for it.

I dont want to revive old thread, but my question still related to this laptop. So:

If I use CPU with FSB1333 (actual FSB 333MHz), does my DDR2-800 RAM will run in FSB 667 (actual FSB 333MHz) or still at 800MHz?

so it will not 1:1 between the CPU FSB and the RAM FSB....
any performance penalty for not running the RAM FSB 1:1 with CPU FSB?
