The BIOS is coded to only accept certain cards, and the 9800M GTX is not one of them. Sorry!

it's can't be physically fit, check the heat sink and enclosure of GT on 8660, 5796 and 9262, they each got different design. same thing applies to GTX.

haha, Ive read the sticky from front to back. Im really looking to customize this thing. For instance, i havent used a CD-DVD in years, so ive pulled the drive out, and im right now building a custom cooling rig to fit in there.

Once i start, i cant stop, lol

Im also right now machining some heatsinks for the ram, and trying to get someting on the harddrive to keep it cool.

Im not to worried about the warrenty, if i break anything, i can buy the part and install it. Yeah its money out of my pocket, but i love customizing.

Ive been doing it to desktops for awhile now. I just thought a 15" notebook would be a real challange

the part that you will by replacing (if you try to use a powerful component that exceeds the thermal budget) would be the motherboard.... which would cost near half the price of the entire system.

Ive been thinking about maybe waiting till maybe a newer np8660 seris comes out. So i could order just the mother board, and swap them out.

Ive heard there maybe be support for the 9800m gtx, on a motherboard revision.

Morbidrazor, I love seeing other people on here who don't really care about frying something like me! :) Let me start you in the right direction. You are going to need to recode your BIOS to accept the 9800M GTX. To do this, you will need the BIOS file from the M570TU (Not RU) and a copy of your own BIOS. Use a program like the Pheonix Bios Editor on grab the code for the 9800M GTX and put it in your BIOS. You will have to do some coding to get it to work. Familiar with low level languages?

That is very risky. One wrong move can turn your motherboard into a useless brick.

But if the GPUs from the Clevos were truly MXM standardized, then a 9800M GTX from a M570TU should work in the M860TU. It would be pointless to put a restriction in the mobo BIOS on a standardized MXM card. The BIOS should be able to recognize it, but the problem it seems that prevents a 9800M GTX from coming stock with the M860TU is the certainty of the unit not receiving adequate cooling (or as the sticky in this part of the forums refers to it, the "thermal budget") which may reduce longevity. A similar issue explains why Clevo doesn't endorse quad core extreme CPUs in the D901C, though it will boot up and function with it nonetheless.

^^ Your right it won't. I'm still looking for an app that will, perhaps there is a new editor that hasn't gotten leaked yet. So I guess my suggestion to open a TU bios would not work ;) not yet at least.

Are you sure it will boot? The 570tu will not boot with a QC (as tested), and it looks like it'll need a mobo upgrade to do so (unless more info has come out on this subject?)

No, I was referring to the D901C and QC Extremes with that last statement.

Me being a hardware man, this looks like its going to get deep. lol

Maybe ill wait for the m860tu motherboard revision to come out, see if the bios can be flashed wth that.

Anyways, after i getting my custom cooling done, ill try to get some pics up, and temps. For the time being.
