So my Clevo P170SM is about 1.5 years old and the battery is pretty messed up. It is always "charging", and never goes above about 40%. Not a big deal for me, since I mainly use the laptop while plugged in to power. My question is whether I should just take it out? Could it be drawing unnecessary power usage? Extra heat?
On the other hand I noticed that if it is removed a big part of the underside of my laptop is left naked and 'susceptible to the elements'.

    Thanks for any opinions!

If there is no actual physical or electrical damage to the battery you can leave it in or out. We always suggest leaving it in as power buffer in case of sudden power failure or fluctuations at your home, but if it is completely dead that wouldnt help.

If you notice any excess heat or bulging remove it immediately. Just keep an eye on it.
