Dells recent lack of quality in their new refresh of laptops has left me wanting for something more which made me remember the name Sager/Clevo.

I know they have been Alienware ODM's in the past not sure if they are at present or not.

Anyhow Ive seen the 5730 and other models, they look rather promising (I dont care about color I care about quality).

Can anyone share some insights on the build quality, durability and longevity of Clevo/ Sager laptops???

Any comments or experiences would be welcome, especially where the 5730 or 5797 models are concerend.

    Thanks Very Much

    Hey conghelach,

I am a fellow Dell user myself who just recently switched to Sager. If you are used to the customer service and responsiveness of Dell you will not be disappointed in working with one of the Sager retailers. I personally made my purchase through xoticpc and they have been very helpful. The service plans are on par with the complete care dell package (less the in home service). They also offer domestic customer service, so no talking to some idiot in India like you most likely have with Dell. I have not received my order yet, so I cannot comment on the build quality from personal experience, but from what I've read, short of getting a business grade laptop, the Clevo based models have very good build quality. Take a quick look around the forums and you will see plenty of positive feedback. Hope that helps.

    +1 to Xotic

and yea, i remember calling dell to see how much a battery was for an old laptop (i couldn't find one online) and they told me i should get 4gb of ram for it... I then asked why because windows 2000 (32 bit) can only address 3gb, and i was 99% sure that there was no way it would be taken by the bios and the ram type, but he kept pushing it till i hung up xD

Previously owned an HP and a Gateway and recentely purchased the Sager 5793. The build quality on the Sager is far more superior to the others. I always felt I "NEEDED" kid gloves when using or moving the HP and Gateway, while the Sager is a more solid notebook !

I know what you mean, thanks for the input everyone. SAGER IT IS THEN yipppee.

Now to save up the money LOL.

Yeah the HP's Gateway's and other best buy brands just SUCK. We live in strange times indeed where all people seem to be concerned about is what color their laptop can come in as opposed to quality and performance.

    Plus reps going to everyone!!

Sager , and mainly XoticPc and PowerNotebooks have the best reputation here. You won`t go wrong with them, had a Sager, and if situation were different (lack of marketing from Sager in Europe) I would still have one...

PCMW, although most of the people in NBR say bad things on them, is very good in providing support satisfaction to its customers, like me. It's very easy to request things from them, including warranty parts, they don't ask several questions as opposed to most vendors.

I was a diehard ThinkPad man, but waanted the option to play games. MacBook Pro's have some good specs and okay video cards, but very expensive.

After looking around I made the 'risk' switch to Sager (never seen one or touche done, so hard to switch .. maybe you just don't like it?)

I'd _never_ go back; Clevo's are amazing. Good build, great specs, and even competitive pricing.

(For a low end machine, you can't really beat those large brands. But when you hit the mid to high end, the Clevo/Sager/etc's out there are actually very competitive. Consider.. a MacBook Pro can be $3000 or more (so can a Clevo), but the model of Sager I bought far beat anythign in the MBP that I needed ,and was $2000 CDN ...)

XoticPC was a great reseller too, very recommended. But Sager direct is probably okay too. Eurocom seem like good guys too.

I would highly recommend going Sager/Clevo. All of my friends are so impressed by this NP9262. Its build quality and performance are unrivaled. Puts all of those little 'toys' (because that's what they are in comparison) at BestBuy and FutureShop to shame. Already one of my friends has a Sager NP2096 because of my recommendation, and another friend is thinking of getting a Sager soon. I've started quite the trend. My dad regrets getting his little HP at BestBuy because of this beast.

My friend who has the NP2096 is continuously impressed by it. He is just unable to comprehend how such a small and portable machine is able to brave even the most intense games at decent or sometimes really high-end graphics settings. He multi-tasks like crazy, and the amount of things he has open at once when he's working on something for engineering would surely crush anything HP or Dell offers.

But I was like you. Unimpressed with what Dell offered, and was spooked by Alienware's nightmare customer service stories. Took a pretty big leap of faith jumping the gun on Sager (ordered from XoticPC). Let me tell you I couldn't be happier. This machine continues to impress me. I take great care of it, and it just keeps taking care of me. I'm probably going to get a new laptop in about two years, and I won't look any further than Sager/Clevo. Easily one of the best things I've ever purchased. Zero regrets. Build quality is astonishing. When I take it apart each month to completely clean it out, I always can't help but take notice of just how well this thing is made. Everything is so well thought out.

I have yet to see any severely negative opinions of the NP5797. It's true its predecessors have had some woes with inferior wiring for the audio ports (like headphones) in the front. Not sure if that is user error or a manufacturing issue, but maybe someone else knows for sure. And I am sure that if you ran into that issue, you would get great tech support from Sager or whoever you bought it from. Hope that helps.
