However now I'm afraid of purchasing it due to reading about all the 7970m issues on the forum. My current laptop has been old reliable for 4 years and has been the best. So I'm afraid of buying a laptop that will be plagued by driver issues, and performance problems. Should I buy it now, wait a month and see if the issues are fixed, or just change to a 580m which I don't really want to. What are your opinions guys?

Buy it now
no need to wait as nothing better is quite around the corner for quite a while

Well for one, what you have to realize is when you get on a forum like this, most of things you're going to read are people having problems. That's why they post on a forum in the first place. The 7970 is actually a very reliable GPU and I have not had a single problem with it. Maxing out every game I can throw at it.
If you need a computer for college and you're starting in the fall, you need to go ahead and make your order. It will take at least 2 and a half or 3 weeks to get your purchase. I ordered my laptop for the same reason you did. I needed a computer that would last me through college. From the looks of it, this will definitely last.
Hope I could help. :] -
I would also like to add that the NP9150/NP9170 are extremely well built machines.
Mine took 4 weeks to build/ship and performs amazingly well!
I couldn't wait.. it idles at 25c as well... never goes above 65c max load. O.O
Buy it NOW! -
This is the time to buy as next gen processors and graphics have both just been released, and they are the core of performance/gaming computers.
As trayeberle pointed out, people come to the forums when they have problems, rarely when everything is working fine. The only real problem with the 7970m is driver support, and because this is a software might easily be remedied in the future. However, even without official drivers the card still runs amazing performance that you simply won't find anywhere else. -
While my NP9170 is not here get, I previously had an M17X R4 with the 7970m. Anyway my point is that the 7970m is a very strong card and while I had it blew through everything I threw at it I think and hope the enduro/driver issues will be resolved with time making this card even more beast. Hell, even with drivers gimping it, it is still quite the beast

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too hard, it's a great gpu and will get you years of service.

Great GPU, drivers are coming. Same with every other GPU on the market. Don't worry about it.

the only thing i'd recommend doing is getting longer warranty.

Since you are getting an OS, I'm pretty sure Sager will install all the drivers on your laptop for you and then test it out. With that, it should work properly. Most of the problems I see are from people installing all the drivers for themselves.
Should I buy my laptop now or should I delay my purchase?
