A week ago I was looking at the DV7T Quad Edition but I started looking at the p151 they sound awesome. Would you suggest this computer? Are there any promo/discount codes I can find anywhere? If I wanted to upgrade my graphics card, could anyone show me a link to a tutorial? I just really want to make the right decision.

Edit: I would love to get like a 170hm or 150hm If I could get it with like a 6970 or a 470 graphics card if I could get it barely above 1300 but that doesn't seem likely...

The GTX560 is a damn decent card and you can configure it with lower specs and upgrade later when prices are cheaper. The Nvidia cards also have 3D ability which is really nice. I just bought a Eurocom Racer with i7 2720 and 6970HD and I am super pleaded with it. Its a damn fast computer. Plus the all black looks just military.

Current promo is $100 off a $1500+ purchase. Additionally, you can PM any of the resellers for additional discounts. If you wanted to later upgrade the graphics card, you would have to buy the bigger adapter (180w) in addition to the graphics card because the stock adapter (120w) won't be able supply enough power.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but would it be a reasonable assumption that the 8130 would be upgradable in the future when less power consuming laptops ( 28nm era) start to come out??

If Intel makes the newer CPU's backward compatible, you could use them on the P151HM1 board, but it sounds as though that isn't going to be the case. As far as CPU's, you'll probably be limited to the range currently available for upgrading. GPU's will be limited to any MXM 3.0b cards (again, all currently available now- this may change if Nvidia keeps the 3.0b standard going with the next generation too)

So I already placed an order for an 8170 with the 6970 graphics card. It came out to be a little over 1500 not including shipping. Can I still somehow receive the promos and discounts or am I SOL? (I didn't receive the -100 dollars discount)

dunno, you would have to contact your reseller and see if they will give it to you (don't get your hopes up though).

Yup, just call them, if they give you a hard time about and it hasn't shipped then you might be able to cancel and reorder it with the $100 discount.

Thanks for the advice. I am actually weighing similar options, so we'll see...

This is a great resource when contemplating which graphics card one should go with: Mobile Graphics Cards - Benchmark List - Notebookcheck.net Tech

You can also see the card's performance in various games, run at different settings.

If you want to upgrade past the 560m right now, but are unable to due to budget constraints, another option would be to get the P150HM, which has a rubberized finish and larger PSU that will support future GPU upgrades.
