Should I install drivers for my 7970m from the Clevo website or straight from AMD?

Long story short I've been having some performance issues with SW:TOR over the last week or so and, while I'm 95% convinced it's the game acting up -- namely because I run other equally- or more-demanding games and they have no issues -- I'd like to cover my bases.

I updated two days ago to the latest driver in Clevo's website but I'm fairly sure that's neither 13.1 nor 13.2 (also, how the hell can I check that? From what I can gather, my driver says it's version 8.951, while I believe 13.x should be 9.x...), so my question is...

Should I update straight from AMD? And if so, what pitfalls should I be aware of?

    Thanks!

Try the AMD ones. Don't expect spetacular performance improvements. Stability on the other hand, is reported to be better, and I concur.

I play SWTOR quite regularly and I'm on AMD 13.2 beta atm. The game runs pretty fine so I can suggest those. If the Clevo website's still got the 12.11 ones then I'd avoid them, the 13.1 / 13.2 are much more stable.
Also, don't forget to update your Intel drivers, just in case. ( Support for the 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ Processors with Intel® HD Graphics 4000/2500)

Anything I should be aware of when installing from AMD? Conflicts with Clevo drivers, specific packages I should get?...

For some god forsaken reason the auto-detect tool refuses to acknowledge that I have an ATI card. How can I install the AMD drivers on top of an existing Clevo driver? Do I have to uninstall the Clevo driver first?

Nothing that I can think of. As for my installation method I usually express uninstall all AMD software, restart, uninstall Intel drivers, and then install Intel drivers first, restart, install AMD. I would avoid using any driver remover tools with switchable graphics setups unless you know what you're doing because in my case they've screwed my system up and I had to use Windows Restore.

Don't use the auto-detect tool, it never works with Clevo switchable setups (in my experience at least). Download the driver from here AMD Catalyst

Most software that attempts to detect a video card on your system will report the Intel HD4000 . I suppose the same happens here, even if it is an AMD auto detect tool. Manually download the driver (I suggest 13.2 beta 3) and see for yourself mate ;)

Thanks, that worked! Hopefully the game will run decently now :)

... and no, it didn't. As I suspected, it's not the graphics card. I installed the new drivers and the same problems persisted. I tried running it on the integrated graphics -- with effects turn down of course -- and the same crackling sound and general slowness persisted even with graphics turned all the way down.

SW:TOR has to be the buggiest game I've ever played.
