This question get asked alot, but I want to make sure. I am fine if AC adapter is plug in my laptop(np 8130) while my battery is charged at 100%. I am one of those people who leave my laptop while charged for long time, only unplugged if i go to sleep.
I been reading on how to keep this battery stay longer, but I find that an article saying that it better to take out the battery if your intended to use for extensive time or take it out when ur laptop is full and recharge it when it hit 50%.
Now I find another article, Fact or Fiction: Leaving your laptop plugged in all the time will harm your battery? - TigerDirect News
That taking out your battery and charging will kill it because lithium cells lose capacity over time for each charge.
-
I just leave mine out with a partial charge. I rarely use the battery so I usually sell the laptop with a like new battery. I wish it didnt have a pad on the battery to stabilize the laptop though.

Does anyone sell a dummybay same slot size as battery with pad?

I've personally found that leaving the battery out helps expand the life of the battery by a little bit, but if the power goes out or someone trips over your laptop cord, you won't have that battery to protect it from shutting off.

I like to keep the battery available to cover these unexpected power losses. I don't know what wear-n-tear this will place on the battery, but I just follow the User's Manual.
From the x7200 User's Manual - "To optimize the life and improve its performance, fully discharge and recharge the battery at least once every 30 days." -
In my dell XPS 1530, I kept the comp on for 1 week straight with the battery inside and I didn't see any noticeable effect on the battery life. This was at about the 1 yr mark, wanted to see if it'd implode before the warranty went out.
At that time I could pull about 2 hrs of useage with the 9cell, when it was brand new I was getting maybe 2.5hrs.
I currently still have the laptop (Almost 5 years now) and battery's almost dead. At full charge I can use it for about 20 minutes before I need to plug it in but that's fine because all I really want is to be able to turn it on and boot up while I'm getting the charger out of my bag.
The major factor that killed the battery was when I put it in my bag but it was still on because it was still shutting down. This effectively killed the battery, I had 1.5hrs before this happened and it went down to like 30 mins.
I've heard that you should take out the battery life and cycle it every month but to keep it alive the longest but for me I'm content with having it plugged in and not have to worry about power outages and what not. -
Please don't bother and leave it in, the last generations of laptops (including my 4-year old Sager NP 9262) work fine that way.
My laptop has been plugged in 24/7 for 4 years and the battery still seems to give the same performance
Should I leave my charger in (with laptop battery)?
