Normally I'd wait for the reviews to hit the street before putting my money down. Should I take a leap of faith here?

The ASUS W90VP-A1 was my choice which got very good reviews, but it's plagued with problems and is discontinued.

    its entirely upto you Dazman.
depending where you are buying from there are quite a lot of people that have already ordered and as soon as clevo pull their finger out and release them we should see some full reviews with benchmarks.

I would think that Asus seems to have issues with their initial releases and then later support for fixes. Clevo/Sager may be more dependable in that department.

The decentered keyboard seems problematic to type with. About the only thing that I'm worried about at this point.

Problem is I'd really like the 18.4" laptop and I did consider the M17x as it's very comparable. However, I heard the Alienware can be problematic.

I would say compare all the features of both and see which one best suits your needs , there both great machines (essentially the same hardware) so either one will be a good choice im sure.

Yea the biggest selling point for me was the slot loaded Blu-ray, intergrated GPU for Battery life as I'm going into college, and the design and with competitive pricing from dell I just couldn't pass it up!

    Do you have it now?

With almost the exact same specs it works out to be slightly more expensive than the Sager.

yea but for more slightly expensive you get a smaller laptop and better design IMO. Waiting on some reviews of the 9850 before I make a decision :S

Smart choice... just for me I could not get a 17" laptop as It fits in very very very few bags and the size is a concern as well for college... 17" is big as it is

Well I just configured the both systems and the Sager. With a deal from the reseller the Sager is $270.00 cheaper.

    Hard to pass up.

Just FYI there are multiple reason's why the M17x is more expensive... the fact is the Sager should be cheaper than they are selling it for

Exemplary cooling in a 17" package capable of handling the 280's and Quad core CPU just as well as the M980NU possibly better, also better in the fact will be easier to find bags and all around easier to handle at 17" instead of 18.4 (you'd be suprised how much bigger that is) as 17" is big enough as it is... Slot loaded drives, Alienware Lighting, Aliminum and Magnesium build, OS included in price, incredibly small power brick for the amount of power it puts out, the customization like the name plate, personalized manual, mouse pad, hat etc. and more

I would not be worried about pre-ordering the M980 ... I did, a few weeks ago - before deciding that the D900F would suit my needs better.

As for the Alienware - I'm pretty sure these 2 machines are quite equal in performance, roughly - it will be down to what design you like most, and 17 versus 18.4. That's for most people - non-fanboys, neutral people, at least.

That all depends on you... for me the extra 200 dollars was easily justifiable.... When you throw down that much money on a system you have to be happy with every single aspect, and I simply wanted the smaller laptop, Slot loaded Blu-ray burner and the aesthetics

...and everyone that allready have one, will be biased towards their own machine - it's no fun admitting you may have made a mistake - so don't worry about it.

    model.

    Thanks
