I've just recently received my Sager 9150 with 7970m installed and my temps seem to be okay in some games.. Factory paste no IC Diamond.

Max Payne 3 (Very High Settings)max temp: 85C
    Crysis 2 (Ultra settings)max temp: 87C
Trine 2 (Ultra settings) max temp 91C

Furmark after about 5mins max temp 93C 90% GPU usage

I'm thinking about ordering some GELID Solutions GC-Extreme Thermal Compound as suggested in another post.. Should I go ahead and try to repaste or are these temperatures okay long term?

    Thanks!!

90+ I wouldn't want to see. Probably worth your while to redo it.

I would leave it alone, your temps are within reason.

I got those temps when I first got my np9150. Repasted because I think they messed up the IC diamond paste job. And I found out they did when I opened it up.

Repasted with thermaltake tg-2. temps dropped to max of 83.

repasted again with prolimatech pk. Max temps now when gaming are 75. On Max settings. and yes, i'm running crysis and crysis 2. Never gets to 80c anymore.

So yeah, give it a try. It only takes less than 5 mins of your time and the result might yield something better than expected.

Man, all these heat issues due to improper paste application and heatsink design has me really worried about Clevo and/or Sager's quality control. I really would hate to see them slide considering the quality components and quality cooling they've given us in the past.

Obviously not EVERYONE is having these issues, and some people may not even notice or care, but in every case I've read so far, a user that changed their TIM ended up dropping temps at least 5C, many 10C or more. I think the resellers need to push back at Sager to look to improve the process especially considering users that pay the extra fee for the IC Diamond, and have to redo it anyhow because it wasn't applied properly.

It's not quiet but it also is not overbearing.. I'm honestly not bothered by the fan noise at all.

Ordered the thermal paste today I'm going to follow these instructions: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/670778-picture-guide-upgrading-thermal-paste-your-own.html

I received my Sager 9170 with 7970m installed and I'm very happy with it, except for the GPU temps. For example, after 5 minutes playing Metro I am at 95C. After reviewing all of the postings regarding this issue on line, I am ready to RMA the unit and go to Alienware. I hate to do that because I am a big Sager fan.

One question - does reapplying the thermal paste void the warranty/RMA process? I don't mind giving it a try if there is no downside.

You won't void the warranty by reapplying TIM, so you're good to go.
