I just recently got the Sager NP8130 with a core i7 2760 and gtx560m. I am pretty happy with it for the most part, but then soon after they released this deal for the radeon 6990m as well as an extra $150 off for NBR members...
so if I downgrade the cpu to an i7 2670 I could get the NP8150 with the 6990m in it for about the same price as I payed for my NP8130.

I am a student going for computer science and also I'm probably going to be playing BF3 quite a bit (when I can find the time :p)

I am still in the 30 day return period. You think I should trade it in?

definitely trade it and get the i7 2670 with 6990m.i7 2670 is more than enough for cpu.gpu is that matters and 6990m is almost twice as powerfull from 560m.

Oh I just realized I forgot to mention to get the same price I'd have to go with the 8gb 1333mhz RAM vs the 1600mhz, but would that make much difference?

And also, would I notice much more fan noise/power consumption using this setup?

I think you should switch the 6990m is so much more powerful in comparison to the gtx 560m

you won't notice the difference between 1333MHz and 1600MHz ram.

The 6990M is a power guzzler.

so would I expect to get less battery life then, since the 8150 doesn't have any kind of integrated Optimus-like features?

Yes unfortunately it will have less battery life than the 8130. However, the 8150 makes up for this lack with much more graphics power. :)

Yeah, I mean to really have any worthwhile upgrade in battery life I'd have to drop to like the NP5165 or something, which looks like a pretty good laptop, but would just sacrifice so much performance.

I might see if I can do this switch after all...

I'm not sure how it ends up costing the same for you - for me it would be 300 or so more for the 8150 if I kept the same features of my 8130.

I don't know. I paid $1524 for my 8130 with all the upgrades I got on it.
If I configure the NP8150 with exact same features, minus the 2760 processor and the 8gb 1600mhz RAM for the 2670 and 8gb1300mhz ram, then it comes out to a total of $1564.

Take off the extra $100 current promo if you spend over $1500, and $50 for being an NBR member gives me a total of $1514, but then I'll have to pay for return shipping for my NP8130 probably...

Yeah, in most cases shipping won't be refunded for returns, but it seems to me that it would be a small cost in lieu of the performance gain that you would see. I'd suggest shooting an email to your reseller and check it out though :)

Yeah definitely, I actually got it through Xotic so I suppose you might know, but I have shot off an email already :) I actually got free shipping with the NBR discount so it would just be paying the shipping to get it back to them I think.

yeah I hope so! I'm pretty excited about this performance enhancement since this computer will hopefully last me for a while. I'm a little worried cause I know the end of my 30 days is getting close, but it is a weekend coming up and if I don't get it off tomorrow I might not be able to get it off until Monday...
