i was just brousing through the M860TU user manual and came across this picture but have not seen anything about it on any of the re sellers websites.
any idea if this is an optional extra or included or is this manual out of date as the sim is now not available.

On Xotics website, it appears to still be there in the pictures of the bottom. I dont know if that means it is still there/still a sim slot, but there is a latch nonetheless.

I've seen many initial specs of M860TU that says optional HSDPA. So that might be it, but I think it is up to the reseller to offer that or not. Probably a little more configuration is needed, like installing the antenna and so on.

But maybe Justin or Donald know more.

Why would you put a sim card in there, what use would you get out of it?

I think the manual said that was in Europe only, the HSDPA.

We have exclusive offers in partnership with T-Mobile online this week (and Vodaphone in a few weeks) for 3G SIM cards in the 860TU (Nexus) :)

We will be adding them to the config pages asap and will be offering them to all undelivered orders tomorrow so we can install the SIM cards before shipping :)

It's probably a lot less then most people think these days and the new SIM cards are future proof upto 8Mbps (will confirm this)

my provider is with bt and i get 250 minutes free roaming a month BUT have i been able to find a hot spot as of yet, nope. unless i am in the centre of london i cant get any connection. so is the idea of this sim to replace the wireless roaming so you can connect anywhere where there is a phone signal.
also Neil, any idea if it will be a monthly contract or pay as you go.

It'll be a monthly contract SIM card with the additional option of a USB stick so you can also use it in a desktop/other notebook (though not at the same time as the SIM card!).

The service availability is checked by T-Mobile/Vodafone to make sure you have a product you can use before "signing up" but basically wherever you have 3G on a phone you'll have it on a notebook too :)

    thats interesting,thanks for the explanation.
a friend has a vodafone stick and she pays £15 a month but the connection was terrible. upto 20-30 seconds just to open a web page.
ive got 3G so it could be tempting.

    - I'm using a Huawei E220 USB 3G modem to connect to a virtual machine running on my Sager 9750. The 3G traffic really depends from the area coverage you get. I've had links go all the way to 6Mbps download in Geneva, Switerland. But on average I get 3Mbps download.
    - In addition I have a Sierra Wireless AirCard 875 when I need my host Linux partition to connect to the 3G network.
    - For my upcoming Sager 9262 with an ExpressCard connector, I'm waiting for the Sierra Wireless AirCard 885 to be available in Europe.

I have a dedicated 5GB/month contract for 79 CHF, which is about 79 USB nowadays.

I use my 3G USB Dongle maybe 7-9 days per month, when I'm at a client that doesn't allow me to plug my laptop into their network.

Will be this offered in US? And how much would it cost if it is offered in US by T-Mobile?

Will be sending emails out tomorrow when the deal is confirmed :)

It's something Kobalt is offering in conjunction with T-Mobile UK and Vodafone UK so I don't think it will apply in the US. I'll check for you tomorrow though and let you know.

It should be unlimited, I can't see why would that hurt them. If it is unlimited, I would use them instead of road runner, which I can only use at home.

I don't know whether it should be or not, but what I'm saying is in the contract provided by Sprint.
