This is just to see who here has placed an order for the Clevo M570RU/Sager NP5790 and is waiting to receive it. I'm kinda trying to figure out what place in line I would be if I were to order soon. I'm just dying to see some reviews for it before I place my order for it. It's currently my #1 choice for a notebook and #2 is nowhere close to it. I don't even know what #2 is on my wish list. I'd also like to know where you bought it from, what kind of specs you got, and what/if you got for the warranty?

The price would be nice to know, too.

    Thanks

Well, judging from the postings on this forum, I'd say the Sager NP2090 is much more popular than the 5790. :p But I'm with you - I ordered my 5790 from XoticPC on June 23. I needed a high-end gaming laptop before college starts back up in August, so I can't wait until winter (or later? ) for some high-end DX10 action (8700M GT doesn't count). I think the Go 7950 GTX will be just fine for gaming - it's got plenty of power, and games won't require DX10 for a very long time.

Specs are in the sig, total came out to $2177 (+ $30 for shipping). Granted, I ordered it without an OS since I got Vista Business for free through my University (gotta love being a computer engineer :D ) I didn't get any kind of extra warranty or anything. I got the matte WSXGA screen because I think WUXGA is way too tiny for a 17" screen. I mean, in the desktop world, WUXGA is only found on 24" LCD's. My current desktop has a 1680x1050 20" LCD, and even now it's sometimes hard to read stuff (although I do have pretty bad eye sight...)

With all the hubbub about the 2090, I was beginning to think I was the only one who ordered a 5790. :p

I ordered the 5790 on 6/19 from Xoticpc too. I was torn between the NP2090 and this but since I only needed a DTR that would only occasionally be moved I went with the 17" and I liked the looks of the 5790 much better.

Joga just made me look like a fool. I had my heart set on the WUXGA resolution but you saying that it's very tiny has me reconsidering that. I really want to have the glossy finish but not if it means the screen's going to be hard to see. My current desktop has 1024x768 (That's right, rocking it real old school!) so I really don't know what resolution is the best for me. Basically, the higher the resolution means what?

Well the text IS smaller at 1920x1200 but you can fit two firefox windows on it, which I personally enjoyed. Also pictures look great and you wont have a problem with fitting icons on the desktop because it's huge.
Well, you can see I liked it :D

You can still get the WSXGA in glossy (I actually prefer glossy, but I got the matte because I'm on a tight budget). Don't take my word for it -try it out for yourself. 17"ers at Best Buy-like places usually only go up to 1440x900, but you can go down to the closest mall and find a Dell kiosk. They usually have a laptop on display with a WUXGA resolution. Try it out for yourself and see if it's too small for you. Originally I was planning on getting WUXGA too, but I saw the 17" Dell with WUXGA and decided that it would be too small for me. Then I went to an Apple Store and saw a MacBook with a WSXGA resolution, and I though it looked better/more readable for me.

You think that's bad? I've heard stories from the Alienware forums of people getting WUXGA on...15 inch screens.

You've got to have better than 20/20 for that.

Eh, I have a WUXGA 15.4 inch notebook. It is a strain to read when I'm tired. Otherwise it is fine. I just wish my GPU were more powerful. Recent games don't run well on high settings on anything less than a GeForce 8800 GTX at this resolution.

The good thing about WUXGA is you can scale it up or down to any resolution you want.

The only problem with WUXGA is that at 1900x1200 and 1680x1050 resolutions is that they will be clear. Below that it will start to get blurry. If you plan on gaming you need to get a display that will be the resolution you game at. Where you can get decent frame rates at your native resolution.

Would I get decent frame rates at the higher resolutions? How blurry do you think it will get?

It's not so bad if you turn on AA and AS, but there's no around the blurriness - this isn't like CRTs where the beams just get recalibrated to another resolution, on an LCD, you will always have the amount of pixels that is native, but if you're playing on a lower resolution in-game, you'll be stretching out one game pixel over two or three real pixels, which gives a blurriness to it.

If you have an LCD, I recommend you try it with games like CS:S or HL2, that's a good start to tell how much you'll mind/hate it.
