I'm preparing to order my Sager 9262. The only thing I'm still debating is the video card.

I can either go with the single GeForce 9800M GTX with a gig of memory, or two half-gig 9800M GT's in SLI. I assume that the SLI'ed cards would be faster, right? Significantly though?

My only thought is, would I be able to cut down significantly on the overall heat (I know the 9262 has amazing cooling, but heat is always on my mind) by using a single 1024 card instead of having 2 512's both creating heat? I'd be especially interested to hear from people with SLI'ed setups.

    Thanks!

Take the single GTX as you can add a second card later. SLI GT will not be a huge gain at all

The GTX is the smarter choice.
Although I have SLI, I`d rather have a single card than two. They add weight and power consumption, and thus drain battery life fast.

If you've got the time, wait. 9800GTX in SLI will be released very soon.

tough decision right now. the gtx will be the smarter choice as you can add another one later on, although that path costs more. the best thing to do is wait 1 or 2 weeks until the full gtx sli details are announced along with pricing because no one really knows just how much better they really are.

I would take the 9800M GT's in SLI mainly because of the cost of 2 9800M GTX's in SLI. However, I am also banking on the fact that there will be a future card out for the D901C/NP9262 that is much better than the 9800M GTX. If the 9800M GTX ends up being a much superior card and ends up being the LAST available card for this notebook, then I will wait for it to drop in price substantially (to the point where it is the same cost as one 9800M GTX) and buy them then. I bought the 2 9800M GT's for almost the same price as the 9800M GTX. Also, the comment about the SLI GT not being a huge gain is untrue. The 9800M GT is essentially the same card as the 8800M GTX (2% gains, and cheaper cost). Someone posted single/SLI benchmarks for the 8800M GTX and they show a HUGE gain.

If you have time, wait for next year, there is new 18" laptop with nvidia 10th series card. rumor*****.

Get a single card now since it's powerful enough for Crysis at all high :). no games can utilize 1gb of vram yet so there's no point of getting 1gb card now! I would get a single 9800GT :)

imo the 1gb of ram is not going to make much difference since i dont think the gpu can fully utilize the 1gb... i cant possibly see the gtx being a large % over the gt. im guessing here but i think maybe 10%. it could end up being more or less though.

so it would depend on how much $$ you want to spend and if you want every last fps you can get... at least to me it would

The ETA for 9800GTX is not 22nd anymore. People, come on. It says late august on the sager website. So there is still some time left ;)

why don't you get 9800GT SLIed? alot cheaper option.. :) then again, if price isn't a factor, wait for the 9800GTX SLi.. then you'll have the best mobile GPUs =D

I upgraded to SLI from a single 8800M GTX, and didn't notice any heat increase at all. I use high fans when I play games and the individual card temps are roughly the same in SLI mode as in non-SLI mode.

I've become a big SLI fan. All the many games I've tried have run perfectly in SLI, with a huge boost in FPS performance at high resolutions. I can't imagine getting a high performance gaming notebook without it.

Seriously, this is barely a significant difference, so rather than being a Friday, it'll be out the week after, anybody who waited this long would be foolish to through away their patience and pull the trigger early. "Late August" minus "22 August" can at most be 9 days, more likely 5-7. Chances are you can start ordering these ultimate front-line beasts in the first week of september.

If we were talking about moving its release to "end of the year", then fine...but this is just an insignificant period of time relatively speaking.

Sit tight, it'll pay off ;)
