So I finally after returning my 7970m I received the build in my sig.

As you can see I have the 680m now. Everything works fine, I've tested some of my steam games from the old HDD, such as sleeping dogs, borderlands 2 and bad company 2. But Skyrim just wont work with my 680m, it laggs like hell at around 5 fps. please note I am using a very graphics intensive ENB which worked fine with my old 7970m.

I'm sorry if this is a noob question, but I'm not very familiar with nvidia. my last card was a 240m lol.

Is there any way to "activate" 680 like the kombustor trick with the 7970? I have also tried to set the game to use the 680 in the nvidia control panel but it still doesnt work...

I would make sure you have the latest drivers and update for Skyrim installed. I'm not aware of any issues with the game and the 680m. Have you looked into those?

Have you tried without the ENB (mod?)?

well skyrim is up to date, but Im just using the nvidia drivers that came with the machine, since it is my understanding that those are the best. im on 302.71 btw.

well its kinda hard to uninstall an ENB but I will give it a shot. do you think any other mods are affecting it too?

I would run it pure vanilla just for a point of reference. Then add mods one at a time to determine if they are causing the issue.

Yeah doesn't sound like it would be. More than likely one of the graphics mods is doing something funky and doesn't jive with the mumbo jumbo the 680 does. Sorry for getting all technical in my terms in this post.

Lol! You just have to remove the d3d9.dll file from your steam common/skyrim directory and copy it somewhere to later add it again. That's all!

Speaking from personal experience, I can 100% guarantee that the ENB mod is to blame here. Don't use that on your 680M, it'll cause a pretty slideshow.

Remove the d3d9.dll just like sirana said, and if that doesn't work, google on how to remove the specific ENB you're using.

Ha! I thought you have to remove oll the enbpalette files....

Well i went ahead and uninstalled the whole game anyway and now have installed it again, currentlywaiting for the latest update to finish downloading.

But the ENB should work fine seeing as I was getting 55~60 fps with the 7970. I mean it shouldnt really be a problem for the 680 right?

    Ill report my findings.

Oh, and I fired up 3DMark just to see what mz score was, but the benchmarks were only running at 5 fps, and no fans were spinning.... :(

That seems definately to be a driver problem. Download and install the new 306.23 WHQL drivers from Nvidia and see if it cures the problems.

The drivers that came with the machine are outdated in the meantime.

Ok Guys, it was the drivers! thanks alot for your help. But now my fans just spin all the time, even after quitting a game, it usually takes 10 minutes for them to idle... this wasnt happening before, is there a fix for this?

Well 10mins sounds long, but for example my fans usually spin for 2 more minutes after I quit the game to cool the card down effectively.

You could try to press FN+1 (not Numblock 1, not F1, but "1" above Q), this should activate full fan mode, by pressing it twice it should deactivate it.

check your temps and make sure they are in line... if its getting really hot that could be the culprit. my 680m at stock clocks only hits 73C in skyrim for a reference point. I have done the foil mod, copper heatsinks, gelid extreme paste, and have a notepal u3

I had problems with ENB on Skyrim too; the solution was to use the Injector version, not the Wrapper. Run the Injector.exe and leave it open, then run Skyrim. (With the Wrapper version, Optimus was defaulting to the integrated graphics for some reason). But if the newer drivers helped you out, then you found a solution anyway! Enjoy.

I'm guessing maybe it's optimus related nah ? I mean maybe skyrim is simply running on the Igpu hd4000 not on the actual card, an way you can create profiles on optimus so that you decide which games run on which gpus ?
