Whenever my notebook comes back from sleep it seems to be working something in the background. Processor temps are 45C idle, when they are normally around 28C idle. Task manager doesnt show any unusual activity, neither does resource manager. Vista 32, what could be wrong?

when it returns from sleep use the task manager to see what is running sucking up the cpu...post back once you see what it is.. it should show you whats eating the cpu up in there

yea, it doesnt show anything out of the normal. CPU activity at 1-2%, but still higher temperatures

what speed is the fan coming on at?? i know when mine wakes from sleep the fan does not run at high.. remember sleep does not fully shut down the system it puts the work into the ram and reduces power...still should ot be anything to affect the temps like that though imo..

the fans are loud after sleep, unless I force em to medium. but then the temps go up even higher
If I restart everything is back to normal

there must be some thing running.. or it could be that bios. that bios is not optimized imo for the x9000. upgrade to the 1 i posted for you and see how well that works, if it still does the same thing then we need to see whats running in the backround

What are you using to read your temps? It might be something as simple (and as annoying) as a subsystem that doesn't properly wake up from sleep that reports incorrect temp info after the system wakes from sleep.

HWmonitor. But the fans are controlled on a firmware level, which reads the temperatures and turns them on accordingly. this means there has to be something making the CPU work :-/ but why doesnt it show?

wow going to be tough.... ill give this some more thought for a bit can you monitor the temps right after coming out of sleep to see how long it takes for this to stop??

right, well idle temps are usually 27-28C.
Then I put it on sleep, and wake it up again.
Fans turn on a bit, im like yea thats alright cause its just coming back from sleep and all. I check the temperatures, and they are hovering somewhere around 45C.
I browse the internet for a while and its still fans on, 45ish C temperatures. I can say that it was like this for over half an hour, after that I just restarted and it came back to normal.

okay try disabling aero its a long shot but vista turns aero on right away after coming back from a sleep. i know i remember a few cases of the temps going way up after sleep due to vista running aero. i know one person with a asus g1 turned aero off for testing and that was his problem..and this is something you may not see in the process list. give it a shot just to see.

im quite amazed, that did help. Its not completely fixed yet, but the temps only go to about 32C in idle now, instead of 45.
definately reduced the problem, thanks a lot :)

now what i would do just for the heck of it is re-install the oem driver from sager. from what i have found is after installing the laptop2go drivers i noticed not only a increase in temps but also a lot of hdd flickering after resuming. this does not happen on my machine with the sager driver. remember those new drivers were originally meant for desktop use and converted to work on these cards..

imo i would 1000000% if it was me remove the heatsink for the gpu and re-install new compound like as5 or mx2. i used mx2 on mine since i had it available. they had the oem compound on SO THICK it was like dried caked on there...WAY TO MUCH... apply a small bead of as5 and tighten it down..

install sp1 imo and see if that helps (which it should) if not what i would do if it was me is start over with a fresh install and watch as you install things to see if one certain item had a effect on it.
