In an attempt to join the Sager community I learned that there will be some delay. I was ready to order my Sager NP8760 at powernotebooks.com. I added all the customizations I desired and was set to go.
The disappointment comes in when I learned I have to call to actually order my new machine. I guess I will have to wait one more day to officially say I have ordered it. Just a minor disappointment, nothing serious.

I know what you mean! Don't worry, before you know it, you'll have your machine up and running, and you'll be glad you waited! And at least PowerNotebooks has an awesome and friendly sales team. Some of them even lurk these forums on occasion.

Why would you have to call? That's rather strange.
-
Not entirely sure why, but it was not a big deal as I ended up having a good conversation with Donald. Anybody know why the order has to be called in?
-
I was told it was to make sure my credit card ran without the bank red-flagging the purchase and thinking my identity was stolen. Or something like that.
Small price to pay. -
Strange, I don't think other resellers do that. Anyway, congrats on your purchase! Now you get to experience the worst part of all, waiting...
-
Exactly!! This wait is going to suck because it will be longer than normal due to the holiday.

One of the biggest reasons we ask our customers to call in is to help protect against identity theft by speaking directly to the card holder.
We're also just friendly like that and enjoy speaking with our customers.

I wish there was a way to get the Price I paid from IBuyPower from one of these different resellers, such as PowerNotebooks.com instead. It seems to me that they have great customer service instead of what I'm dealing with going with IBP.
My hand was sort of forced in a way, since I wanted to use my Military Star Card to make my purchase instead of my checking debit card. And the only companies to get a custom PC through AAFES ( www.aafes.com) was either Dell/Alienware, HP, Microtel, and IBuyPower.
I knew I couldn't stand the notebooks offered with HP, I never heard of Microtel and it looked like they had old/outdated machines overpriced. It came down to either Alienware or IBuyPower.
I purchased an original Area-51 desktop back in 2004 (P4 3.2Ghz EE) and loved it, as it lasted me until this year when I got a new rig (i7 920 through Cyberpower PC). But I just couldn't justify spending another $4000+ when I now have a wife and 2 kids. Not to mention, it just didn't seem like I could get what I wanted with them, (only 260M, etc) without overpaying.
I've had a stressful experience with IBP, and their $109 "Rush Service, Ship Next Business Day" service. I just wish I could have got my D900F for $2,640.87 with another reseller. It was just too hard to pass up a 5% online code through IBP, along with a 10% code from AAFES up to $500. All in all, it was over $450 off with free shipping as well.
Let's just hope I get it with no problems out here in Afghanistan, or I'll really be bummed out with having to ship it back and that whole ordeal again. -
I hope you get a pristine system as well. I would also like to thank you for your services that many take for granted. I hope all is well and wish you the best.

I almost had the extra delay of the holidays holding up my purchase, but I decided to go ahead and be proactive and call them after I placed my order (it mentions at the top of the ato-gen email to call for faster service).
At first it was kind of annoying that I had to call, but really, it was pretty cool. There's been such a decline in customer service over the past number of years that it's refreshing to actually have a name to attach such an important purchase to. Now, if I have a question, I'll just email Tim instead of sending an email into the general mish mash of "[email protected]". Plus, in my case, it was nice to have verification of not only the cash discount, but also verifying my military discount, and assuring me that my military information had already been deleted for security. Bang up job over there.
One thing I would like though is a log in so I can check the status of my order. I'm one of those guys that checks where UPS packages are at least four or five times a day. -
Slightly bummed out
