I am currently looking for a 180/240w power supply. There have been a few threads concerning this, however they are either out of date or closed. I am aware that some people have found success with the Dell PA-9E 240w and using an adapter, however some modding is usually required.

    My questions are as follows:
    1. What would be a good slimline power supply / adapter combo for the P150EM?
    2. If needed, what is the easiest way to mod said power supply?
    3. Is anyone will to sell a modded supply or adapter? (I am currently in the States)
    Thank you in advance

The Aorus X7's has the highest watt/inch³, but is only 200W. For 240W it's the Dell PA-9E (from certain Alienware models):

Clip off the Aorus/Dell plug at the end of the cable, leaving most of the cable attached to the adapter. Clip off the Clevo cable close to the adapter itself, again leaving most of the cable in tact. Splice voltage and ground apart of both cable ends and solder together. Remember which is which; measure them with multimeter in case they're not colour-coded (it's DC, after all, not AC). Apply two small heat shrinks on both voltage and ground wires, then one larger one to completely wrap the two smaller shrinks for good measure:

It is also possible to buy a complete adapter->laptop cable (with the right tip, that is; not this example). However, you asked for the easiest mod and swapping the full cable requires a dremel or box cutter in order to pry open the power supply, considering it's most often glued together (hence the duct tape). Plus, you'd still need to solder; the voltage and ground wires are soldered to blobs on the adapter's pcb. Also needs better flux or a high-temperature iron (more expensive), due to the higher melting point of lead-free solder.

And could mod it for you, no problem, but that'd take shipping to/from Europe. There's no reason to, though; it's relatively simple to diy, only requiring a (cheap) soldering iron.

You also have to be careful about those cables, most use quite thin gauge cable inside which will cause it to heat up.

Usually the way to get the best cable is harvesting it from an official brick (though this is expensive).

Thanks for the quick response, I do have an official brick at the moment but the connection to the brick is starting to fray and the power of duct tape has been called upon. Concerning the Auros X7, the Chicony 200W Power Adapter A11-200P1A was the closest I could find to an OEM supply.

Also when you say plug I assume you are referring to the Aorus tip?

What exactly would this entail, isnt the perviously suggested method "harvesting" the offical brick?

Thanks again guys, I knew I would get some semblance of direction at nbr.

That's probably the same adapter as the 'HP slim 200W', considering it has nearly identical dimensions. That makes it about twice as large as the original Aorus adapter.

Since the EM's is only 180W, you might consider the Dell JVF3V as well (for a mere $52), or the 240W PA-9E oc option (for $49). The 180W is a 1/4th smaller than the 240W and both are smaller than the 180W original.
    Yes.

I actually did post a guide way back when with what i did.

Basically I opened my original 180w brick (it used to anti tamper screws), desoldered the cable, removed the original one from the new brick and soldered that cable in place. Once screwed together it gives the most professional finish.

It's all done at your own risk of course, getting the polarity wrong or bodging the soldering job could lead to catastrophic failure.

I will look into these power supplies, as they seem easier to attain.

Yes, some other posts had mentioned you posting a guide.

Thank you both for your help.

Those power supplies like the 240w have been around longer and over more systems which is why you can more easily find them.

Hi, i used to have the original power adapter from 2012 for my P150EM. however it apparently had an issue and i got it replaced 2 weeks ago at my local reseller. They gave me a new model which is half the size of the original, i was quite impressed by it.
It could potentially be what you are after. The model is ADP-180MB K (size 154 x 74 x 30mm)

I already have one of those, with an Asus branding :)

I just wanted the original excel sheet so I could start gathering more info on power adaptors.
I'm planing of having some sort of wiki to help people to replace their power adaptors.

    Sure:
    Adapter list (Google Docs)

It's editable, so feel free to modify. Or report back when you've got that wiki ready, of course. Just drop in a small line of credit, please; some of them were very hard to verify, so it did take quite a lot of hours.
That is indeed impressive; it's in sixth place.

    Thanks.

All credits will be given for sure. I'll probably use github to host it so if you have an account I'll give you write permissions to the repo. :)
