I think the thinnest options for Sager are the NP8672 for the 980m and NP8671 for the 970m. Can someone please confirm?

    May I also ask please:

Are these easy to upgrade down the line?

    How is the screen?

    How is the fan noise?

I was going to go with the MSI GS70 due its tiny form factor and light weight, but build quality and warranty are pushing me in this direction.Advice is appreciated.

    Yes they are the thinnest.

Storage and memory wise yes they are easy to upgrade.

All the screens are at least ok but there are a few options :)

Not sure what screen size you're looking for, but for a 970m the NP8651 is a bit thinner (but also 15").

15" version gives you IPS and 4k screen options, which are superior to the LED screens offered at the 17" size. The IPS screen is very nice.

Fan noise is variable. You can set it the control center to "quiet", which helps. My cpu fan produces a slight high pitched noise when it ramps up, but I didn't see this reported in any of the reviews so I'm looking into possibly getting it replaced. Otherwise the fan noise seems pretty reasonable for a thin & light laptop.

For 17.3" the NP8672 and NP8671 are the thinnest. The CPU and GPU can not be upgraded in them, but the upgradable parts are easy to do.

Hutsady any idea when Sager will offer 17.3" IPS screens? For the 8671/8672 are the screens LVDS/eDP and if LVDS, is the eDP port working?

We havent got any word of IPS screens being available in 17.3". We dont have any NP8671/8672 on hand right now to check the screen connection type so I emailed Sager to see what they could let me know. As soon as I hear back I will update you.

Thanks for doing that.. Please do let me know.. Really getting pissed off with Clevo not having 17.3" IPS screens... They have 8 months to fix this... I seriously don't want to buy a new laptop with a TN screen....

Happy to do so, waiting on their reply but will let you know.

Edit: Sager reply "The motherboard has either eDP or LVDS connector not both" hope that helps.

Makes no sense to me because the mobo should have both connectors.. but just for your info, Jaybee posted that mySN will be having LG IPS screens for P771ZM so that's good news.. Now if that becomes more widespread ;)

I thought I saw somewhere that the 770/771zm had either or. But only one is soldered for the panel chosen. I would think if true, there is possibility of a DIY, but that is way beyond my skill and knowledge. Perhaps, the more daring who dig deeper into their motherboards when more people get theirs will confirm this. I would guess there are 2 mother board variations, or sager could possibly be soldering the connection per panel chosen. But methinks there are two motherboard variations.
