    Greetings, fellow Sagerites!

Does anyone know if there's a slot loading after-market DVD RW drive that fits in the 5720's optical bay?

UPDATE: I found a Pioneer K05 slot loader at ZipZoomFly for $87 w/free 2nd Day Air. It's got the same dimensions as the Pioneer K16 that's now sold with the 5720. I'll let you know if it works.

Hey Jack - does the 5720 have a modular bay? I know my Sager 5320 does - when I upgraded my drive to a DVD+/-RW, I had to remove the benzel from the laptop and swap it with the new drive's in order for it to fit.

Bad news... The Pioneer K05 drive won't work with the 5720. It'll fit the 9750 or 9890 just fine, but not the 5720. :(

Ah, that's disappointing. :( Does the benzel not fit?

    Hey, Chaz!

It's not just the bezel, it's the whole drive that doesn't fit properly. The drive slides about a quarter inch deeper into my 5720 than it should, plus the front end is shaped differently. You can see the difference in the two pics. The K05 drive is perfect for the 9890's drive bay. No fair!!

So, it's time to get an RMA from ZipZoomFly.

Yeah - that's how my optical drive is shaped. If you want to upgrade the drive, you'll have to swap benzels, and that only works with a standard tray-load drive.

The modular bay has upsides and downsides.
