I have officially solved the mystery of the slow drive problem and it lies in the the "group by" and "sort by" area, in which both of these had been selected to group by and sort by total size of file, effectively confusing the hell out of explorer, especially for folders containing 100+ videos of 700 mbs or more... in my last thread related to this I posted how I solved the problem, the actual solution is in bold:
"Go into Computer and right click on drive goto properties. Click the customize tab. Click restore default, apply. ( one more thing I did was select "All items" as the template folder type and selected "also apply to subfolders"- don't know if it helped but worth a shot) Also, go into general tab and unselect "index this drive". Do this for every drive except OS drive. Now, go into control panel and enter indexing options, click advanced and click restore defaults, then click rebuild. click ok. You should only have users and start menu in the indexing list. Go back into drive properties and make sure the changes are still there. Restart computer."
and now it has reoccurred- due to a problem that I have NEVER been able to resolve: Windows Vista64 File Explorer RANDOMLY CHANGES MY FOLDER VIEW SETTINGS FOR NO APPARENT REASON, no folders are exempt, even root "Computer" folder will switch from list, to small icon, to tiles, etc. in a completely random fashion. I have reset all folder attributes several times and as soon as I change ONE folder's view, such as to large icons so I can see thumbnails, view settings for all the other folders randomly change. Vista, meh.

Yea, I get my folders changed into small list also even if I ticked the remember folder settings thing...

i usually set a folder to show "Pictures and Videos" under the customize tab to show thumbnails nd since then vista remembers my folder settings!!

I have it set to "documents" and apply to all folders because I prefer the details view... I thought SP1 was going to fix this issue... but nothing can fix the minor problems in Vista's kernel sort of an F'N rework, and I heard that Windows 7 is being built upon that kernel, hopefully with a rework an/or some tweaks
