So earlier in the month I ordered a Sager 9873-S S(Specs below in signature) My question is screen related, on Xotic and Sagers site they seem to not post the specs of the screen, i know the 3K was listed as 120Hz 5ms, but the 4K screen I ordered they seem to intentionally leave out this information. Does anyone happen to know the Hz and response times? I'm still waiting for my rig to ship as the screens were originally supposed to be back in stock on 10/14 but were pushed back to 10/28 due to limited amounts.

oh no, that sounds really bad.. should i see if i can downgrade to the 3K?

I also noticed that that was a german review.. I read something online earlier that said Euro only had the 60Mhz and USA had 120Mhz?

The 4K will not be the best for competitive gaming due to the response times, but would more benefit for video/photo editing/creation. If you are prioritizing competitive gaming then the 3K has better stats, but note it is a TN panel (the 4K is IPS).

gotcha, i just hate the idea of being limited to 60fps due to the Hz

Just go for the one that suits your everyday needs the most. If you need the best color accuracy you can get on a laptop for any media related work, the 4K will meet your needs more. However, I will say that I do more video related work but still chose the 3K 120Hz because I realized I would rather trust my color calibrated work monitor 100% of the time vs a laptop screen (sensitive work with grading) and enjoy the additional benefits of smooth gaming on the laptop when I need it.

I don't really plan to do much with video/graphic design. I will mainly game on my laptop which was the reason for purchase. So general consensus would be to get the 3K instead?

I wonder how good XOTIC will be if i ask for the downgrade since the laptop hasn't shipped as the 4K is still backordered

Yeah, I think the 3K would be better for your case. The combo of high refresh plus g-sync plus fast response time plus higher resolution (than full HD) is going to fit your needs very well.

I suspect there shouldn't be any issues with Xotic as long as they haven't started the build yet.

Yeah i dont think they have, the laptop is in Phase 2 and they were waiting for the 4k screen which shouldn't be there until 10/28 so i may have time. I wish there was examples of these screens, it sucks because i read somewhere the 3K could have ghosting. LoL why can't this just be an easy choice.

4K120Hz panels are coming around March next year - they are IPS not TN so refresh rate is 25ms. Only TN panels push refresh to 5ms. For now you can get the following 17.3" options:
    - 120Hz FHD IPS non G-sync 25ms
    - 120Hz QHD TN G-sync 5ms
    -60Hz FHD IPS G-sync 25ms
    60Hz 4K IPS G-sync 25ms

cool, so i called and made some changes to my spec, went with the 3K over the 4K.. i think overall i'll be happier since i primarily use it for gaming only. Instead of getting a refund for the difference I opted to upgrade the RAM and SSD from 256 to 500GB (new specs in sig)

I think you'll be happy with the changes you made to your computer. I like that 3K screen for gaming over the 4K one. Having more storage space will be nice, as you maybe won't have to worry about deleting some programs/games to put others on the SSD.

If you have any other questions, just let me know and I'll be glad to help!
