is it true that some people are getting bright screens and some people are getting dim screens? so its like a 50/50 chance that you'll receive a good screen? or does it depend on the manufacturer they use?

yup depends on who makes the screen. they use 2 or 3 different companies right now it seems. lg is the brightest of the three imo

    Ask them... then you'll know.

Mostly you see around here that they can't guarantee a certain part be used in your system build, but they say there's so much % of a chance you'll get it.

Is there a way to tell which screen you have without ripping the screen housing apart? I'm curious as to which I got in my newly arrived system.

Look for the screen hardware ID in the device manager, inside Windows. Then Google that number.

okay. So I feel stupid now, further research and googling leads back to the owners lounge thread, and indicates that the code i got is one for the lg screen. Altho in my defense I am not one to read through 29 pages of threads hehe. But I think in this case i might just want to do that and see if theres anything else I can learn.

All of the WSXGA+ are LG.

Most of the WUXGA LG, but some are AUO which will be a bit darker on boot-up, but once they warm up a bit the brightness is fine.
