Can anyone confirm this????They're saying the word is from Clevo itself......

Not true. Users who bought the pilot version of the M860TU with the 9800M GT/GTS have upgraded to the GTX 260M. I'd like to see that quote from Clevo.

Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
What store?
-
Do you know if your BIOS was updated to support it?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Bluemercury's M860TU uses the 1.00.14 BIOS. It's not the newest BIOS version, but it specifically gives the M860TU the ability to use the GTX 260M.
-
-
Edit: By the way how many revisions are of the m860tu??ive seen references to m860ETU and m862tu....can anyone tell me the differences? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
One supports quad cores and one doesn't. That's the only difference between the motherboard revisions.
-
M860ETU = Sager NP8662, the M862TU is an amalgam of the 2, and doesn't exist
-
Oh ok. I was under impression that there were more than two now. Still im going to ask if they can sell it to me anyway, and will mount it myself.....
Also i made a mistake to soviet, my bios is the .15 and ec is .12. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
That's okay. It doesn't matter in this case. Your notebook is already ready to accept a new GTX 260M.
-
edit: whats the heat factor compared to the 8800mgtx and 9800m Gt??? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Pretty much.
The 8800M GTX and the 9800M GT are the same card. -
-
In most cases the 260m runs about the same temperature if not cooler than the older 8800m and 9800m cards because of the die shrink.
-
Well there's something going on, the store that soviet sunrise mentioned to me RJTECH.COM is also saying that you NEED THE MOTHEBOARD REVISION THAT SUPPORTS QUAD-CORE.......
-
-
@ Bluemercury,
Everything is Ok. I've changed out my 9800m GTS with a 260m GTX that I purchased from RJTech (good people). As long as you have a least BIOS rev 2.14 in your NP8660, you are good to go. I had the same conversation about requiring the motherboard revison. I believe that RJTech wants to be absolved of any responsibility. Just say that you understand the issues. The card comes ready to be inserted into the computer. Piece of cake.
Good luck -
-
Yes, it is.
-
Yes, I have one of the original M860TU.
-
Oh boy, this reminds me of when I wanted an M860TU with quad-core support and that the rep at Eurocom told me no change has been made to the motherboard.
But yeah GTX 260M = Bios update (if your bios is too old)
Q9000 = new revision -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Bluemercury. You're a very hard person to persuade. This thread should have ended back on page one. Just because RJTech says it won't work doesn't change the fact that many users have proven it to work already. How many more M860TU users to you need to testify?
-
, im not doubting anyone, i just find strange that Clevo is saying the vga is not compatbile with the original revision when the damn bios is compatible with the old revision and there are people that have it working. Still i only have one more doubt, is the heatsink and module case the same for both this card and the previous ones, 8800m Gtx and 9800m Gt???
I assume its mounted in the same as the older ones?or is there any new step?im asking because i might have to mount it myself....i doubt they will do it without Clevo word..... -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Even if Clevo does say that the original M860TU can't take the GTX 260M, they are saying that from a business perspective. Does Clevo want you to buy a new GPU or buy a new notebook?
Your 9600M GT heatcage may be different compared to the 8800M GTX/9800M GT heatcage. I don't know, maybe it is, maybe it isn't. You're the only one in the Clevo forum that bought the M860TU with a 9600M GT. I'm not going to question why you decided to go with the 9600M GT in the first place, but you know damn well what I want to say. Nevertheless, the good news is that the GTX 260M will come with a new heatcage installed for you can use your original heatsink so that it is a drop in installation into your notebook. Whether this "store" wants to sell the GPU to you or not is up to them. Lastly, like I asked back on page one, what is the name of the store you bought your notebook from? -
-
You use the original heat sink that comes with the M860TU. It is exactly the same as the heat sink in the M860ETU. RJTech sells the 260m GTX already encased in a copper module (or heat cage). I say again. I've done it. (Look at my sig.)
-
-
MY 260m gtx from RJTech did not come with a heat sink. You can purchase new heatsink for, I believe, $60 in addition to the $415 for the card.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Bluemercury. You also have a one year warranty on the card with RJTech if you buy it from them.
-
-
Edit: anyway gotta go to bed. Thanks all for the help, still going to try to get it. -
So, they just ordered the card anyway. in two weeks ill probably get it.
-
Is the copper casing from 260M GTX the same with the copper heatsink or is the metal sheet that was used also in the 8800M GTX?
-
So i just received the notice that the m260gtx is in the store complete with the heatsink and module. Lets just hope it all fits in my original rev of m860tu.
edit:forgot to say, the guys wont mount it, because its suposedly not supported by clevo, so im on my own apparentely. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
It doesn't matter. It probably doesn't take anymore than five minutes to swap the cards. Congrats on your upgrade, Bluemercury.

You should always replace the thermal paste. The stuff that they put is GFC-M7, which is a tacky paste that does an average job at thermal transfer. You're better off cleaning it and putting AS5 or better paste on your own.
-
hi! I have the artic cooler mx-2, is it good enough? -
Yes, MX-2 is a good paste
It has been superceded by MX-3 now, but it's still good. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I agree with Theriko. MX-2 and MX-3 are very strong performing pastes.
-
Ok, ill mount it tomorrow after work, still need to get some lint free cloth, otherwise paper toilet must be used...
edit: lets just hope the thing isnt broken since i ordered it with the knowledge that "clevo" doesnt support this config, and if it doesnt work they wont take it back for that reason.
Also forgot to ask if there's a new way to get to the bios site of the clevo m860tu, now its asking for logn/pass. -
It will work.
-
-
Is there a new link to acess the m860tu bios? i cant acess the old link, it asks for user/pass.....im currently using the .15 bios but i might upgrade before changing the vga.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Ask your vendor for the BIOS.
-
-
Just mounted it. Its working, but i have a few doubts, when mounting the heatsink the upper cpu screws didnt seem to go all the way down, i dont remember if this happened before. And win7 after turning it on it installed automatically, dont know if i need to installed a clean driver. I tested l4d at various configs and while it was always at 60fps, it didnt feel smooth. Regarding cpu and gpu temps using cpuid i get 38C and 52C, cpu and gpu respectively....

Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Did you reinstall your GPU driver after you swapped it in?
So ive just been told the m260 Gtx doesnt work with old M860tu board rev.
