..and now the screen is black upon booting.
I was surfing the web with it at my desk and it suddenly locked up and now whenever I try to boot the screen is completely black. It doesn't even go to BIOS. I'm guessing something is wrong with the video card.
I didn't do any overclocking or anything that could have potentially damaged it other than normal use e.g. gaming and web use. It was running everything I threw at it fine.
I ordered from Xoticpc.
Now my question is should I get a refund or get it repaired? I have no problem with the machine itself but I don't want an unreliable machine that I constantly have to keep getting repaired.
I have to pay shipping / shipping insurance if I get a refund but perhaps that's the better route. If I do return it for a refund I will probably just end up getting a mobile laptop for web browsing (I need it for work) and save the money for a more reliable desktop upgrade. I've kept my 3 year old desktop and the 6 year old desktop before it up and running fine. Perhaps that's a more reliable route
Obviously this forum is biased toward Sager but I' m wondering how normal this kind of thing is for the 5793 and the chances of it happening again after they fix it.
Thoughts?
I'm trying to make a decision before tomorrow.
Sucks this kind of thing has to happen because I was really happy with my laptop.
Also any idea if they would extend the 30 day refund policy because of a defect within 9 days if I do get it repaired?

id say go for the repair and if it happens again then get a refund, i havent heard of many people having problems with thiers maybe its just an isolated inccident

Is the LCD on?
-
Well I have to get a refund within 30 days of the original purchase (10 days ago) so that probably wont be an option. Well I'm guessing it would take at least 10 days to fix considering it will take at least 3 days to get to them + the time it takes them to fix it + the time it takes them to ship it back. By that time it would be at 10 days at best until the refund warranty ran out. So if it crashes again 11 days later, no refund.
Unless they extend the refund period because it happened within 9 days of the purchase but I'm guessing they wont do that.
"Is the LCD on?"
There was no difference from turning it on the power and turning it off on the screen.
I'm pretty sure it didn't go past BIOS because I didn't see it reading the HD or making noise beyond the first few seconds. -

where are you from?
id say go with refund if you are not from america. as the cost of sending back and forth if it keeps breaking will be a lot. -
LCD on, but stays black? And no beeping from the POST? But the fans are working?
Same as what happened to me. Not sure what happened, but your guess the GPU is fried is probably good.
I'd send it in for warranty service, **** happens. It's a nice machine, and I'm sure XoticPC has better service than Nexoc here in Germany. Keep it. -
get a refund.
how often do you get a 2nd chance?
blessing in disguise? -
That's scary... I'm getting the same laptop, from the same reseller
But I trust XoticPC!

I would say its a one off, (or a two off with itsthemechanic)
failure to post can happen to any machine, its not an indication of a design flaw
have you tried doing a complete reset, ie. removing the power and the battery, leaving it a few mins then powering up again
also will it power on without the battery? could be a faulty battery
in fact there's 100#s of things it could be, but thats what warrnties are for
I wouldnt worry about the service from xotic, because if it was bad, justin would get eaten alive on here! -
), you really should get into immediate contact with justin@xoticpc (the owner of XoticPC) - send him a private message or an email or even an IM and ask him to work with you on either figuring out the problem or, if it can't be done or the 30-day window can't be extended, getting a refund.
Obviously, there are no guarantees in this world, but Justin posts here frequently and generally gives helpful info - he doesn't tout or push his product - so there's a better than even chance that if you talk to him now, well before the 30-day period ends, and try to be constructive (no, that doesn't mean act like a door-mat, it means, principally, try to avoid using too much overheated rhetoric - a little is probably expected given what happened - and don't expect everything to be done in an hour and the system back to you overnight if you decide to let them have a go at fixing it first).
In terms of your actual problem, one thing that does seem to happen with a number of Clevo systems is that the cable connecting the LCD to the motherboard comes loose, resulting in poor-quality video, or, as in your case, nothing at all. So, it may not be as catastrophic as it must seem to you right now. -

I so wish you had a european base Justin
I should set one up right now............... -
I had the same problem on my NP2090.
It's the BIOS I'm pretty sure. The computer is still fine save for the motherboard; you should lose no data if you send it in for an RMA, but the BIOS needs to be reflashed and there is no easy fix for this. -

apart from flashing the bios isnt such a chore, its just scary
there are still a bunch of other things that could cause the problems described.
So my 9 day old NP5793 crashed
