Apparently, the new P870DM only has 980m SLI or single 980 GTX option. I thought we were going to get a laptop with 980 GTX SLI? If not, I might just go for the GT80 since MSI apparently decided to have it.

beware that the 980 comes in many different forms: different TDP, number of installed power phases, core clocks, vRAM clocks, board dimensions...

the P870DM has the highest TDP version of the 980 rated at 200W. that version, which is also sported with one less power phase and a lower TDP of 180W on the P775DM is more powerful than the MSI GT80 variant and is not capable of SLI functionality.
the MSI GT80 though runs with run of the mill standard sized MXM 3.0 B cards, which hints at lower TDP, less power phases and maybe also different vRAM and core clocks. sure, that SLI config will be faster than the single full-fledged 980, but both cards will perform slower on their own than the superbeast 980 ;)

as far as we know, clevo is already internally testing standard sized MXM 980, so i guess well just have to wait a bit for proper SLI systems to emerge...

So we hope...whatever it is it'll be the only version with an SLI connector (until "other" regular MXM-B come along).

Asus uses their own incompatible GPU MXM-ish out-of-standard designs.
    Aorus will be BGA.

Leaves us with only Clevo and MSI using MXM cards.

Not to mention the "H" crap processors in the MSI.

Well the GT80 is using standard MXM right now so if it is getting 980 I don't see why we wouldn't see MXM 980s. Only thing will be how much is cut down and how it performs.

My bet would be 1064MHz base clock and 5Gbps VRAM vs Clevo at 1190MHz base clock and 7Gbps VRAM. Standard MXM won't have the extra power phases so I highly doubt you'll see 7Gbps chips since the ASUS doesn't even have them with their custom MXM board and liquid cooling dock.

Oh man everyone just LOVEs brother Kyle.
Just wish we would see more of him. No new Notebooks at Computex this year was hard enough, but no Kyle just broke my heart a bit. :)
    He should be Clevo's mascot.
    Total "Kyle-Fanboy" here. :D

I think having the strongest possible single gpu option out there is a good idea, some games and gamers don't get along with sli and this is an excellent option :)
