silly me, why should i ever have been doing such a dangerous and taxing thing..
when suddenly this happened:

zomg.. galaga!
so i thought a-ha! it must be a continuation of this problem:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...s-7-black-screen-after-startup-animation.html
the baked card hath stricken back i thought, so i disabled one of the cards in the device manager, re-installed the drivers and sure enough it worked..... for a bit.
until the galactic monsters started reappearing. then suddenly it crashed completely. the bottom half of the screen was flashing white red and black. I turned it off to see if i could get to safe mode, But the scariest thing now is.. The evil aliens were appearing during POST and DOS boot screens. the screen has lots of matrix symbol action going on along with its normal booting lines.
Whats going on? I dont know.. I fear its game over?

It seems the return of Space invaders heralds the doom of your video card! My friend, I feel for you!
Usually those kind of things mean that it is the end of the line, I would assume you reflowed the card (Since you said you baked it). Have you tried just taking one card out completely and giving it a shot? -
Not yet. Still recovering from the aftershock of Space R@pe. I'll do it tomorrow morning as it's late over here.
-
look out behind you!
-
try reflow/bake it?

So i took one of them out, in turn. The first time nothing happened when i switched it on. No POST. no noise.
The second time there was a little more activity, the HD led flickers as if it's loading windows, but the screen stays black during POST and loading. Its shagged eh?
What bothers me is this: maybe the failed card did damage somewhere else? it shouldn't need any graphics adaptor to display the sager logo screen and the intel raid setup screen. What should happen if i took them both out? shouldn't it boot anyway? -
To be totally honest I don't know. I'm not perfectly sure how the older SLI worked in laptops.
Did you try moving them between slots? The one that didn't boot anything sounds like it is done, but the other one sounds like it is just not producing display.
Some one who knows a bit more about the older SLI can tell us if it requires a card in both slots, though I don't think it does. I would assume it has one main slot and one secondary one, maybe a card has to be in the main slot? -
i tried removing both, and the laptop doesnt boot up: the num lock, scroll lock, and caps lock leds blink together, then it turns itself off. So it obviously needs a card to be there.
Next is moving the card that is not producing a display over to the other port.
If a working config can't be found this way then i guess its off to Clevoweb to see if they can find out what happened.. -
nothing happens when i switch the ports..

Nothing else I can tell you my man, I don't know anything else.
I had hoped someone else could actually pitch in here and give some information. -
i hoped so too.. but nothing changes the fact that its practically a dead system now. All that's left is to get professional help, see if they can do anything about it. Being in the UK doesn't make matters easier either.

It's back from Clevoweb.co.uk graphics card failure, thankfully no collateral. They repaired both cards within one day, gave me a 3 month warranty on it. excellent service.
-
Glad to hear it is back!
Amazing how they both failed at the same time haha, good luck in the future man. -
glad to hear its all sorted. clevoweb seem to do a good job from the people i know who have used them.
-
Did they rebaill the cards?
I'm very glad they fixed it for you! I was already being scared if my W110ER GT650m gives the same problem later on and I can't ever change it for other jeez.
Keep Cool -
it really is becoming an issue with these cards now that they're showing signs of age. I wonder what i'll have to do when they go for good.
have to say i was skeptical about clevoweb, but they turned out ok. its good to know i can rma this machine somewhere that isn't an ocean away.
So there I was, just browsing the internet.
