Even when plugged in. I can't believe that ****! What kind of a default setting is that? I'm running 3DMark06 again to see if there's an improvement. It definitely made a huge improvement in EverQuest.

Only setting that does that, to my knowledge:

Vista does not limit your CPU usage to 50%. Either you or somebody specified the Maximum processor state to 50%, or you or somebody disabled a core. Even on Power Save mode, Vista by default allows 100% CPU usage.

Actually my default on power saver setting is maxed at 50%. I just clicked "restore default settings for this plan"

Now if you are plugged in, I don't know why you would have it on Power-saver... obviously something you might forget, but live and learn. Turn it on high performance if you're plugged in.

    . I just got a 4244 3DMark06. O_O

My previous was 9218. Something has to be wrong here. It must be the 180.70 drivers.

My HP dv9339us (bought in 5/07) with Vista Home Premium 32-bit AND the HP dv7t I ordered (and returned) a few months ago with Vista Home Premium 64-bit BOTH had this same issue. The Maximum Processor State for the default/active power plan was set at 50% out-of-the-box!!!

The ENERGY STAR site notes that 50% is the default MAX for the Power Saver Plan- http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=power_mgt.pr_power_mgt_winVista_default

The Power Plan that is active initially (Balanced, Power Saver, or High Performance) likely varies from vendor to vendor.

If it makes a difference, this was on my Gateway 6831FX laptop, but it was a fresh standard install of Home Premium 32-bit. High Performance and Balanced both default to 100% maximum, it's only Power Saver which gets set at 50% max.

So to me, that seems like the default Vista config.

Hm, why is the "Minimum processor state" is being set as 100%?

Does it mean the processor is always at 100% and will not go down? Why not set to 0%?

From a sample of two machines here I'm fairly sure that the default is 5% min 100% max.

This is my High Performance plan. It's just a sample to show where the setting is located. Seriously, I didn't bother reading and just set it to 100% :p. Btw, can someone else see the screenshot? One of imageshack server seems to be down.

Either there is a glitch or somehow I pressed restore to default because I have set my maximum to 100%. However after reading this I went to Check mine and change the battery max to 50%, I see they are both back to 50%.

This thread pretty much closed with emike09's post. Just hand set the integers to whatever you see fit and save it. Nothing beats the feel of custom settings.
