    1. Go to CCC
    2. Click Preferences
    3. Click Advanced View
    4. Go to 3D Application Settings under Gaming
    5. Set Tessellation to "Use Application Settings"
    6. Change AA Mode to the highest quality

I now get 95%+ utilization in bf3 on ULTRA, which is loads better than 55%. But now I have 99C temps.

    Poop.

UPDATE: I get spikes from 60-90 in the maps people seem to have problems with (Caspian and Firestorm.) But at least I hit 90% utilization, which is loads better than before. I keep 99% utilization no problem in SP, though.

You will see the same with Sager`s fix. They got pretty high GPU utilization, but the temperatures skyrocket. I don`t know if your fix and their attempt is related though.

Don`t play with 99C. You will risk killing your 7970M

I've set all to follow application settings (including AA) and I, too, have had no issues with BF3. I don't think you've solved the issue. I still think it exists but only with some people. I'm pretty sure people will come in here and confirm they have the exact same settings in CCC.

its been confirmed to affect all P1x0EM series 7970m. I havent seen a single person to prove otherwise. Easy test - run kombustor and see your GPU utilization graph, if it sits at around 80% you have this issue. every other card I've ever tested hits 99%.

Just tested the fix on our drivers. The AMD Optimized shaders produced 100% utilization on Firestorm, Non-AMD Optimized shaders produced less than 100% utilization in the same test.

Try to lower your setting to see if you still get 95%+ utilization.

for those not sure, try to run nfs the run. this should be one of the most adversely affected games. always no more than 30fps and utilization never been above 50%. very consistent.

NFS is capped at 30fps. That's a problem with the game, not the drivers.

    Yeah console game...

This is the enduro issue, they dont let you lower your setting without lower your utilization. So when you set all to max, utilization are not that bad. But for game like Battlefield 3 where you cant get 60 fps at max, i want to lower my setting... i hope you better understand enduro issue

It doesn't make sense though. If FPS is below 60 and utilization is below 99%, then utilization better increase, no matter my AA settings.

    Here: a5296b74823ad39a3f4b3bec20714c66.png

Can anyone confirm that the Fan Speed at 0% is normal? Because I can hear a lot of noise... Also when it hits 101ºC the GPU drops even lower, to 50%...

Also, it's normal that it says Intel HD 4000 in Kombustor right? I mean, that card couldn't produce these results, so it's the 7970, right?

By the way, the CPU Usage after some minutes... This is what they have to fix: 3b1134db1485e67822986c20ada0a31e.png

I would repaste, your temps are too high. The rest looks the same as mine and everyone else's 7970m.

Mine came with ICD7 but I'd get 90c+ temps in less than 5 mins of furmark. I repasted with another compound (Gelid GC Xtreme) and now I almost never touch 80c.

Also, yes the fan is working its just that kombustor is looking at HD 4000 fan sensors and cannot see 7970m. They are definitely working otherwise you would overheat in 10 seconds.

That much of a difference? That's great! Did you repaste it yoursel? Do you have any guide I can follow, since I've never done it before?

yep did it myself. its really easy - when you have your thermal compound (again i'd recommend Gelid GC Xtreme, best compound out of 5 or 6 that I've tried so far) unscrew the back panel, your GPU is nearer to the numpad side of the keyboard (left side when looking at it turned over), undo 4 numbered screws that hold the heatsink in place, clean off the old compound from the heatsink and GPU die (shiny bit), apply about a pea sized blob to the centre of the GPU and re-screw your heatsink in the numbered order (1 to 4).

EDIT: I would do CPU as well as again it drops temps significantly when compared to a factory applied paste job.

    Hi,
I put the same settings as in the OP, but GPU after several minutes in a room that is 30ºC, never passes the 81ºC.

    Best Regards to all

Why on earth are your overclock settings maxed out at only 850/1200? This is how mine looks. lol

Did you unlock your MSI Afterburner by going into the code of the program and changing the two "0's" to "1's?"

My dumb question...where do I see the gpu utilization? I want to try this as I have problems w/ a certain game and want to see the before and after utilization. The only one I know is the CPU under the task manager

First off, uninstall your current Afterburner. Download Afterburner 2.2.1. You can't overclock properly with 2.2.2.

What you want to do is open your notepad as Administrator. Then File < Open < Program Files(x86) < MSI Afterburner < (Change your search to "All Files" and you should see a CFG file named "MSIAfterBurner."
Select that file and your Notepad should open it up.

Scroll down until you see this:
    UnofficialOverclockingEULA = 0
    UnofficialOverclockingMode = 0

All you want to do it change the 0's to 1's.
Then File < Save, and exit.
Start up a game, then open After Burner. You should be able to use your core clock and memory clock. :]

Welllllllll I honestly wouldn't. I mean, go ahead and do what I said in the previous post so you CAN overclock when you want. But before you actually overclock, get your temps down a bit. :]

I'll work on the temps as I can since the overclock is software based and I'll have to reformat soon.

Any tips on lowering the temps, by the way?

Thank you for you help :)

Well, the first thing you should try is to re-paste your GPU and CPU. I'm guessing you got stock thermal paste? :] It's really not difficult and it will be a big help. Also, people have used foil tape to tape areas inside the computer. Apparently, it's supposed to drop temps quite a bit. :]
and No problem. Helping is what this forum is for!

Just to clear something, NFS THE RUN isn't anymore capped to 30fps.
Patch 1.1 unlocks framerates as long you have vsync disabled in game graphics options.
    Usually I get around 70-75fps.
And also, yes, the more load u put on your gpu, bigger is the utilization and performance could improve. Untill amd fixes this.

850/1200 are stock clocks. yours are overclocked pretty high. With his current temps I would not push past stock just yet.
