I was waiting to see if Sager would release another 15in notebook but it doesnt seem very likely.

So I am looking at the Sager 8662, I have a few things to ask

    Duo or Quad?
I game but not a lot. And I do want a few hours of battery life.

I do have various application running at one time though. Example:

    20 Tabs in Firefox
Photoshop CS2(3-5 psd usually over 5MB)
    Flash CS3(For Actionscript)
    Eclipse(Java Programming) or Microsoft 2008 C#
^ I dont run both at the same time.

I plan to get VISTA Business so I can get Windows 7 Professional. I see not real reason to get the Ultimate Package.

And are Matte Screens worth it? My $200-$225ish Dell D600(Dad got me it, didnt know I was going into Comp Sci) had a glossy screen. And beside not be able to do some heavy multitasking. The glossy screen messed up a few of my photoshop work.

Firstly, welcome to the Sager sub-forum :)

We'll start by filling you in on a few mislayed details you may have:

Sager plan on release a successor to the M860TU with the W860CU. Look up the thread with that name in this forum and you'll be sure to learn a lot about it very quickly.

For what you need, I would go with a well-rounded Duo like a P8600 for now, especially if you have very little cash. You can always upgrade the CPU to a Quad if you feel the need. Unlike most laptops, it's very easy to do in this one and when buying a Clevo it won't void your warranty.

If you're going to get the computer within the next month then tha'ts a good plan. It isn't that long now until Win7 is out. Personally I'm going to wait it out and buy a full retail version of Win7. Then again I'm one of these people who'll want the Ultimate version even if it isn't really worth it. Darn collectors sensibility.

It's up to personal preference here - if you prefer matte screens and know that you'll be happy spending $200 as long a your screen never bugs you then go for it.

I just want to point out that the matte screen is the WUXGA one, and that is pretty small on a 15 inch notebook. I suggest the glossy WXGA+

I checked out the 34 pages for W860CU, and it looks rather interesting. My budget for a laptop will be $1500-$1700. I was planning to buy from xoticpc or powernotebooks.

And my bad Oiad, I reread the Visita Business v Ultimate part of the post, and I come off as a jerk.

IF September 28th is really the date for Europe, then I will wait bit before going for a laptop.

What kind of battery life can I get with the P8600?

    @ L4d_Gr00pie

thaks for the tip, I will see if I can check one out in person at Best buy or something.

the q9000 was a no-brainer upgrade for me. and i much prefer matte > glossy. those who say WUXGA is too small for 15.4" are on crack. it's damned perfect. hell, if i could get a 17" with a WQXGA screen, i would.

the only disappointment i have with my 8662 (besides not being available with a qx9300) is that i couldn't afford 8gb of ram and/or an SSD. but i'll upgrade it eventually.

i don't know a lot about the upcoming w860cu--but it sounds like nothing significantly improved (except for i7 support) & a lack of WUXGA screen. i dunno about you, but i actually will miss 120 vertical pixels.

fixing the hdd heating problem and giving the cpu and gpu separate fans is significant.

No worries, I never got the impression you were acting like a jerk at all, no apology needed. I was just stressing that it's a matter of personal preference and your choices are all fine.

The best points raised are there. I'd like to include that for the majority of us on this board, having a 3.0b MXM card is also a plus as future releases of GPU will use this format rather than the 2.1 MXM standard used in the M860(E)TU

Thanks for all the adivice, I will probably end up getting the 8662, Becuase Eurocom USD price is somewhat out of my budget.

Unless their price differs from Xotic.

    @ inperfectdarkness

I havent used a 1900x1200 or even a 1650x1080. And whats your battery life like?

    Edit
one more thing about the W870CU , I dont know the difference between the Duo/Quads and Intel Mobile i7.

Try and contact Eurocom before giving up on them. You can negociate to almost a price match sometimes with them. But I have bought mine from xoticpc and they have really excellent customer service, and they have very competitive pricing.

For the screens, just go to best buy and check them out. M860TU's Battery life is about 2h30, with undervolt.

Intel mobile i7 is supposed to be 10 to 20% more performant than the core 2quads of the same category. But that's all advertising, we really don't know until they come out and someone tests them. But the turbo boost does seem nice for single threaded apps and games.

yes, about 2.5 hrs. the only way to really make a personal judgment about wsxga vs wuxga is seeing them in person; however i'm confident that once you actually use wuxga, you won't want less. research as shown me that the vast majority of naysayers about wuxga on a 15.4" are people who have repeat crap they've heard & haven't actually used it.

that, and i like matte. even inside, there's no glare from open windows.

    Thats not bad at all.

One more thing, is the W860CU 15in or 17in?

I keep seeing 17.3 in the threads, and if thats the case the 8662 wins. And weight also plays a role.

Hey, just wanted to throw in an opinion about WUXGA, when I got my clevo, I had never used a WUXGA display before, and after a week I went out and bought a new monitor for my desktop, for the higher resolution.
Personally, I'm a programmer, and I couldn't live without the screen space, it improved my work flow substantially. I've actually just purchased a 30" WQXGA (2560*1600) display to go along with my current desktop one, and hope to never go back to smaller resolutions for working.

Granted, my only experience with WUXGA has been on a 17" and a 24" monitor, so I can't say how it'll go on a smaller screen size, but I can imagine, as long as everything is still readable, that it would be excelent.

Being able to see a good 50-60 lines, with 200+ characters without wrapping per line, as well as the actual program running in two seperate windows on the same screen makes a huge difference to productivity and focus, at least for me.
Hope that helps when thinking about the screen.

I'm close to buying the same laptop. I can't decide on whether it's worth spending $130 more on the T9600 over the P8700. I do some gaming, some HDMI 1080p out to my HDTV, and also a lot of java programming/ work.

If you can justify paying $130 more for a 10% faster CPU, then by all means.

With Core 2 Duo, anything over 2.2 GHZ for medium level CPU processing is good. After that, it's mostly about the seconds saved for a process that utilizes 100% of the CPU.
