I'm strongly considering buying the Sager 5793 while it's on sale at the moment, and it is a great deal for the video card that you're getting in it. However, the RAM is only DDR2 with a 667MHz FSB, and the highest processor available for the laptop is only a T9300 (2.5GHz).

Basically every other Sager laptop, while more expensive, has better RAM and a better processor. Is the difference negligible, though? Are the components in the 5793 more than enough?

t9500 i think is the highest. and ram speed isn't that big an issue. ram is quite versatile and swift at ddr2 speeds. maybe it might make more of a difference in a desktop. the better benefit of ddr3 in a laptop is lower voltage, thus slightly longer battery life, but the 5793 is a gaming laptop and battery life is usually further down the list of priorities on gaming laptops. so to answer your question, yes the components are quite capable as is and should be able to game quite nicely at least another couple of years.

Well partner, the 5793 is the older laptop to the 5796. And its been selling like hot cakes. What you see is what you get with it right now. The 5793 is enough based on what you are doing. Are you just going to game, surf and type documents? Then the 5793 is just the thing for you.
Are you going to be doing HD video editing? The 5796 might suit you better as it has an Esata output, HDMI, and the processor is geared towards HD.

Alright, thanks guys. I'd be using it for gaming and web surfing pretty much exclusively.

I was a bit worried about the hardware myself, but for such a great price, I had to buy it. Ordered it last Friday afternoon and should get it today or tomorrow. Talk about quick!

The performance difference between the Santa Rosa platform the NP5793 is based on and the Montevina the NP5796 is based on is negligible at best. DDR3 RAM is not very beneficial either, since the Core 2 Duo's problem isn't memory bandwidth.

So, get the NP5793. It's an awesome value.

The X9000 CPU is the fastest you can put in a 5793 if you want to spend the money. You will then be able to overclock it via the bios from 2.8 to 3.2.
