Hi guys , I am about to buy my 1st Gaming laptop and I have few questions for you

    i7-4700MQ
    8GB 1600MHz
    GTX 780M
    1x 750 GB
screen upgrade Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Glossy Sager Screen w/ 90% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080)

(will buy a SSD when I sell my current laptop not sure if a 512GB or 2x 256 in RAID-0... Or even 2.5" SSD due to the M-sata issue)

I've read that the Clevo P177SM has a M-sata issue when it comes does anyone have an update on this and whats the problem exactly ? you cannot run or have 2 SSD in RAID 0? What else?

( BTW I've read the 18 pages of the owners lounge)

What do you think of The configuration itself, sounds good any suggestion/comments?

What about the longevity... lots of RMA or known problem with this brand ?

I like the laptop ( I wanted an Alienware but after getting some bulls*** by the vendor I changed my mind)

I am about to buy the laptop from XoticPC but Im afraid getting lots of fee at the door even if the shipping is 100$ (I live in Quebec)

That's about it just looking to know if I am making the right choice...

    Currently using a Asus VX2S...

Yes, it will pull air in the bottom, exhausting it out the back.

There has not been a solution for the Sager mSATA problem, as far as I know. Both mSATA slots are useable on the NP7330 and the NP93x0. Sager , by way of Xoticpc says it's a Clevo problem. Mythlogic say they haven't seen any issues. No answers about what the problem is exactly on Sagers, BIOS, firmware, driver, hardware?

As long as you dont use UPS ground you wont have any fees to worry about except tax.

@Bullrun, the information we have from Sager is " the connected drive has a chance of randomly dropping data connection" So Mythlogic definitely could see no issues at all as it is something that may or may not happen. Because it can happen Sager has decided not to usre the mSATA slot until it doesnt happen.
Clevo has suggested to Sager to not use the P4 slot at this time until they find a fix. Not sure what the problem is exactly either, wish the did so they could fix it

Thanks alot for your reply guys!!

@Hutsady The problem is I live in Quebec.. Here we have 2 tax ( GST and QST )

I will need to pay Both or only one tax ( since I am not buying the item in Quebec) BUT It is shipped in Quebec...

FYI QST+GS is 14,5% which is quite huge on a 2000$ Laptop

So you have to pay a certain tax just becuase you are not buying it in Quebec but getting it shipped there (QST) and then your normal sales tax (GST). Sorry not familiar with how your tax works. Hypothetically if you were able to but the computer in a local store you'd only have to pay GST right.

Hey insane, I recommend you check out reflexnotebook.ca . They are a sager/clevo reseller located in Quebec, and I think it may be a little cheaper to get it from them.

From a local I pay both taxes GST and QST... Welcome to Quebec

Thanks alot I didnt know that!! If there is not any significant rebate buying from reflexnotebook I will buy from Xotics I really like how they communicate with the community, answering questions on forum before buying and stuff!! I also cant belive you guys really reply to people on Facebook when they comment most doesnt even do half of you guys do. Good job!

I have one last question .. (sorry lol)

I know the P177SM Comes with a Standard Matte screen but you have 2 other options

    90% color gamut Glossy
    72% Color gamut Matte

Id like to know if anyone has a picture of the 90% GLOSSY Screen Compared to the Default Matte screen

I tried to look on google and the forum but there is no picture at all except for this thread but there is only 2 MATTE and the DEFAULT version of the Glossy :(

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...-between-different-screen-options-photos.html

I usualy prefer Glossy over Matte but wondering if it is really worth the extra 100$ or I should spend that extra 100$ on a SSD.... I mostly do Gaming / movies in a dark room...

I DO want amazing colors .. I dont like a monitor that look like "washed out" I want Bright colors

Again sorry I just want to make sure I am buying the right stuff!!

Just did a Quote on Reflexnotebook.....

This is insane.. same laptop and configuration is 178.44$ more expensive than Xotics and look at the tax...

    GST-QC (5%)
    CA$98.92
    TVQ (9.5%)
    CA$197.35

    Grand total of 2221.20

The joy of living in Quebec!!

Edit : I will call them tomorrow if it's possible to match the price but yeah would save around 250-300$ buying from Xotics

Yes when you ship from Xoticpc though you will still have to pay the same to UPS once your order is delivered. On top of that, you will have brokerage fees to pay and depending on whether you're paying with visa your credit card company will also charge you a 3% exchange rate fee.
On the other hand with reflex, tax is already included, they pay for any brokerage fees and I believe its free shipping in Canada.
All i'm saying is try not to get screwed by hidden fees, try this website out TheFinalCost.com - Canadian total shipping fees calculator (brokerage, duty, customs) just fill in the blanks and they should give you an estimate on your final price.

Thanks I appreciate and yes I did the estimate on the website Thefinalcost and the final price is $2043,33... oh I live very very close to Reflexnotebook lol... I dont even need shipping.. I can pickup

I just need some help about the monitor choice and I think I'm ready to buy this laptop!!

Really appreciate your help guys, this community is awesome!!

Do you plan on using the laptop mostly indoors in a well lit environment or travel with it and use it in various indoor and outdoor environments?

Six weeks since the release and still nothing (probably working on it longer). It, definitely, has me waiting to order a NP82x0. I'm not really considering the 15' but I would not buy one them now either.

I don't have the screen options that you're deciding between, but I also rarely take my laptop anywhere (it's more of a DTR) and I find that glossy (as opposed to matte) is just overall more pleasant to look at when glare is not considered an issue. This is just personal preference, though, and you may feel differently even under the same circumstances.

For indoor I would recommend the glossy too, it does make it easier to look at and use if reflections are not going to be an issue.

    just realized I have a nice monitor here some example of my 2 screen.. when you compare my laptop screen to my Samsung 206BW The laptop screen is so ugly... I would like the laptop to be very similar to my Samsung;

THE question is : The laptop 90% Glossy upgrade would look like the Samsung 206BW or will look like my Asus Vx2s low quality washed out screen.. ?

The brightness is set to max on the laptop

How do you tell if they are selling you the "working" version....?

I'm actually looking at the NP8295 with 2 mSata's which looks like a newer model, did they fix that problem in it?

    -----

    To the OP.....

Go with "Glossy".... It's always way better than matte. Matte is okay from a distance and in direct sunlight, but if you actually use your computer, and unless you are a construction worker or on the beach without shade using it, it sucks. (and who does that crap anyway?)

Glossy works better in any lighting indoors. Yes, in bright lighting there is some glare if viewing from a distance and at an angle, but who does that? Actually on your computer, yes, at first you will notice some reflecting, but after awhile, you don't even notice it, and you just LOVE your CLEAR screen!!!

Further, glossy actually works better outside in the shade, because Matte "diffuses" the light, thus it's not clear, and Glossy just works as it should, nice and clear.

Matte lovers are simply dumb (sorry), who wants to look through the screen door of their house all day? It's not good on the eyes, mine are sensitive, and so I feel it. And it ticks me off that I have to pay $100-150 more just to get my glossy screen, and can't get it on most good laptops, and the lower priced good laptops, and the only people offering Glossy otherwise is the junk generally mass producers.

    Anyway....

Any NPXXX5 model has the fix, NPXXX0 are the old models and don't have the fix.
