So i am pretty much sold on the np8662 and I actually love what i am hearing about the system. I was always looking for a good 15inch gaming laptop even before i got my m5500. I then got a Macbook for the experience. So i am ready to go back to the PC but i got a few concerns before i buy.

1: How is Vista? I plan on buying windows vista home premium 64 bit. My roommate has a dell inspiron and vista home premium and it sometimes does some random restarts or wont shut off and restart itself instead. Maybe its because he hits it sometimes but idk LOL.

2: Hows the build quality? I am going to be taking it to classes and such for my game dev classes. Just want to make sure its not cheaply built.

3: Is the HDD heat issue a very serious one? I havent heard of HDs crashing or anything like that. Just making sure that it will last me my last year of school.

4: i guess this is more of a vista question but i have an HP printer. its an hp color laserjet 2600n. There are drivers for it on hp's site but is there any chance that the drivers just wont work all of a sudden?

5: Are there any other tips and such for vista or this machine when i do buy it?

If i have any more questions i will post back again. This site has been great in helping me choose a decent gaming laptop at a good price, something i never thought possible. so thanks to everyone.

    1. sucks. Get Vista with Win7 coupon. Use Win7 RC until it's released. Use the coupon to get Win7 and clean install.

    2. Good.

    3. No. Sometimes depends on the user.

    4. Make sure there is a Vista compatible driver. And why would the driver not work all the sudden? Unless HP discontinues it.

    5. Order, wait, and enjoy.

For more detailed information such as HDD issues and build quality, I STRONGLY recommend looking through this forum section about 8662.
