System:
NP-5793
Processor: Intel® Core 2 Duo 2.5 T9300
Operating System: Vista x64
Display: 17" 1920x1200 Glossy
Memory: 4GB Dual Channel DDR2
Hard Drive: 160GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s 7,200 RPM
Video/Graphics Card: nVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX
Warranty: 1-Year
Ordered from Xotic PC
Design:
Feels very strong and well built. Thinner than I thought it would be. Looks much better than the pictures on line would indicate.
Screen:
Zero dead pixels (paid for the 30 day no dead pixel policy)
To sum it up in one word: Poor. Moderate light leakage on the bottom quarter of the screen and light light leakage on top quarter. Colors look washed out and dull. Viewing angles right and left are very good, but up and down seem poor to me.
Keyboard:
Firm and responsive. Its one of the best laptop keyboards I have used.
Touchpad:
Great touchpad, excellent feel to it.
WiFi:
Very good reception, getting stronger signals than with my previous laptop.
Heat and Noise:
Heat is fine. Idle is ~34/29 for the cores. Under full load I got to ~68/66 for both cores. My processor either does not have a perfectly flat surface or the AS was applied unevenly but those temps are fine. I was slightly worried seeing some of the posts about the 579x temps but that is not the case with my T9300.
Fan noise is better in most situations and worse in a few than described on previous threads. The fans are pretty quiet on auto except for the occasional full rotation startup every so often. Its ashame they don’t seem to have more fine control over fan speed, if the fans would simply slowly ramp upwards or stay on all the time a little higher then ramp up when really needed it would be much better. I'd say most of the complaints about fan noise are unwarranted unless the T9300 + the heatsink modifications on the 5793 really make a huge difference. On the other hand the fans on full are way too loud it makes my desktop system seem quiet. Anyone expecting the new option of keeping the fans on full to make the system seem less loud is going to be disappointed imho.
I'd say the laptop would be fine for large lecture halls or classrooms, but I'd use caution bringing it to libraries or small setting classrooms.
Sound:
Average. Nothing really special, headphones were noise free and acceptable as well.
Performance:
WEI: 5.1 (5.4, 5.1, 5.9, 5.8, 5.4)
3DMark06: 9055 out of the box.
Annoying Bugs:
I’m not a big gamer but I do play EverQuest occasionally. For some reason in game the keys ‘=’ and ‘[’ do not work at all and the ‘\’ key actually types a ‘]’ in game. I thought perhaps my keyboard is faulty but I am 100% sure it is not the keyboard because even the “on-screen” keyboard will do the same thing in the game as well as any external keyboard attached. In all other non game programs (word, wordpad, notepad...etc) the keyboard works as it should.
Through un-installing the drivers one by one and testing the results I have found the CIR driver to blame. Un-installing that driver makes the issue go away, but that really isn’t an acceptable solution for me since it shows in the device manager. I will have to contact Sager about this issue.
Conclusion:
The laptop is better in so many ways than I expected, but the one thing that is really bothering me is the screen (and to a lesser extent the bug with EverQuest). I’m going to contact Xotic/Sager in the next few days and see if they have some kind of advance replacement (or cross shipping) option as I need this laptop right away for classes.

HAHA i knew it... penryn have the same heat at full charge as mine... and no performance gain...
-
Maybe this question is a bit off topic, but since all RAM runs on 667MHz in the M570RU, how is it possible to get a WEI of 5+ for the ram? Most, including myself, don't get any higher than 4.8..
For the keyboard: check your keyboard settings, located next to the clock on the taskbar. Is it set to the correct layout (US)? -
For the keyboard, the correct keyboard is selected, and this issue only happens in Everquest (I wish I had other games to test it on, sadly I don't!). -
is a 2.5ghz processor w/6mb cache worth ~100pts more points than a 2.4ghz processor with 4mb cache on 3dmark6?
Because outa the box best score i got was like 8891.
i dont mean value wise.. i mean does that make sense that it would give 100 pts more. than what i got. -
ITS OVER 9000!!! -
Was that in Vista64 or XP?
I ask because I can easly score 200+ more using XP than Vista64.
Anyway the penryn processor wasn't a big deal, it was basically the same exact price as the T7700. If you look at it as 'worth' the upgrade if you already have a T7700 then probably not, but for me since it came standard at the same price point as the T7700 2.4 it was 'worth' it. -
spartan, what screen type do you have? matte or gloss? do the 579x owners feel the same way about the screen?
-
It was the Ultra bright Glossy screen (1920x1200). I'm hoping my screen is just a dud.
-
i hope it is too... do you have any options available to you? send it back maybe?
-
There are quite a few different WUXGA screen models around for the M570RU, I don't think there's much of a choice. And sending it back to gamble on getting a different screen model also isn't advisable..
-
I have yet to contact Xotic (just got the Laptop last night). I wanted to give it a couple of days to fully test everything while I have it to see if there are any more issues (like the issue I am having with EverQuest) and to see if maybe I can live with the screen since I really need the laptop now. I probably wont be able to live with it (if I spot something wrong it will usually nag at me which is one of the reasons why I got the $200 dead pixel insurance; the screen is pretty important to me).
-
i feel the same way about the wuxga screen imo. what model is it? check the hardware id of it
-
How can I check the model ID btw? thats something I wanted to do.
-
Looks like the ID is APP9C69. Any clue who makes that?
-
MegaBUD Penryn is better than the old T series. You can't really feel it because the performance difference usually comes in numbers...
-
-
-
Maybe after some more use it'll improve? -
mm it seems my stuck pixel is slowly dissapearing/shrinking. maybe your screen will improve too? -
I`m sure his screen was a dud or such. My WUXGA is among the best laptop screens I`ve seen, and boy have I ever seen many of them : hps, dells, acers, toshibas and sonys...
-
you probably got a lemon screen, google Everest Home Edition, and check to see what your make/model is and ask Justin what you can do.
Sager does have a 30-day return policy and a one year hardware warranty, so you're covered if it's a problem; only you have to eat the shipping fee. -
And note that you only have to eat the shipping fee IF YOU RETURN THE NOTEBOOK. Sager covers 3-day shipping both ways if they decide it's a warranty issue.
-
yeah thats why i prefer buying in my own country... we have 3 month replacement... its a federal law... and its even better if you buy with a credit card... they refund you and they take care of the compagny...
-
I just got mine yesterday also, nearly identical stat's to Spartan's. I have zero complaints with my screen, flawless imo. I've had 3 other laptops and use 2 LCDs on my desktop pc.
I don't play EQ anymore but play wow, and during the 3 hour play session last night, didn't notice any keyboard anomalies. The laptop does get pretty hot just to the right of the touchpad (I think that's where the video card sits).
Spartan: do you have the new improved heatsinks and larger case bottom? I have the old style heatsinks and case, and am undecided whether to send it back so I get what my reseller told me I'd get. I also have a T9300. -
TheFrawg, unless I`m mistaken, that`s where the HDD should be. That`s why it`s hot. The GPU stays at a cool 44-48 C...

Monitor Name: Generic PnP Monitor [NoDB]
Monitor ID: APP9C69
Manufacturer: Color LCD
I really need a laptop now for classes, so I can't return the laptop and wait weeks. Im probably going to end up returning it (setting up an advanced replacement is possible I am told as long as I pay for the new laptop in full), my only question is when I purchase a new one, is it possible to request a type of screen. I'd hate to return it and get another generic type display like this one. I would like the LG 1920x1200 I have heard good things about that display. -
TheFrawg when you play WoW can you check the '=' '[' and '/' for me to see if they appear at all or the right characters? Oh and if it wouldnt be too much trouble can you check your panel for the model id. Thanks! -
Monitor Name Generic PnP Monitor [NoDB]
Monitor ID LPLE400
Manufacturer *8HRv (and a bunch of garbage)
And I just checked in WoW, and all my keys function (as hotkeys) and type normally when in a chat window. -
edit: I mean the product code on the sticker on the back of the notebook -
-
Sigh, then I guess I didn't get the v5 motherboard either.
-
SaprtanJet, sometimes the washed out and dull colors are driver related, by that I mean the contrast and the brightness are too high.. Try this, go into your Nvidia control panel and under the Color Correction settings try adjusting your Contrast and Brightness settings, even adjust the gamma a bit. To get the shades of gray and a bit more depth in your picture, try dropping the Brightness a bit and increase or decrease you Contrast till you get a better picture.. Adjusting the Gamma setting also helps. Chances are with improved drivers for the 8800m youll get better picture at default. Different drivers tend to have different picture results as far as depth and color. Also try to make the adjustments after you have had your monitor on for about an hour..
Hope that helps.. Worth a shot anyway.. -
people with the LPLE400 does the screen have a sparkle/shimmer effect?
-
i have seen that on almost every lg panel i've encountered. if you don't know what it is put up a white backdrop and tell me if it looks grainy or almost wet. like someone took a damp cloth to it. i've had about 7 lg panels all with this problem and the whites looked almost a dirty yellow. it's almost not noticable on darker backdrops.
-
Its probably just the settings you have or the angle you are setting at.
-
obviously you have never seen this grainyness IRL
-
i don't know how they are allowed to get away with it. also i would like to point out that the LPLE400 hardware id refers to the "LP171WU1" panel which is an older model. Sager sent me an email saying they should only be putting on "LP171WU3" models.
-
Older one(WU1):
New one(WU3):
The WU1 have better brightness, better contrast, better color saturation and better viewing angle... -
How about LPL0B0A?
-
how about sparkle effect since people obviously have them sitting in front of them????????????????????
-
seems ok from reading a couple of threads such as this one http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=178266&page=2
are you seeing the typical lg problems like dark corners and a grainy effect? you would think after having thousand of models shipped back over the past few years especially with dell someone would just go ahead and fix the stupid problem -
i can never get a straight answer on this forum
-
i like how when i made a thread asking this same question i only got responses saying no but then realized it was the reseller i'm buying from. hmm coincidence? also after searching through these forums it seems that all lg panels have this dirty/grainy look to them. anything to save a buck or sell more laptops i guess. thanks for all the help guys! probably going to open up the box and see this and then just sent it right on back and deal with a better company that can put on a samsung panel or just build a desktop so i don't have to deal with this kind of thing anymore.
-
-
my old notebook was gateway nx860xl. that grainy look bothered me so badly. Also my friend has a dell and holy cow the graininess was so bad but it didnt bother him.
-
I think the "sparkle effect" may be due to dithering on the 6-bit panels. You might find the following article helpful:
http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=2994
I'm waiting for the LP171WU5 to come out before I get a new laptop (and since I'm currently broke). Its the first 8-bit panel I've heard of for notebooks.
I read that is coming out Q1 2008. If anyone knows more please let us know. -

Just a small update. I ordered a replacement for my original, and while the screen quality is 100x better (viewing angles and color wise), it has severe light bleeding with a huge dark spot in the middle section of the screen surrounded by two very light stripes on the screen. This screen is the LPLE400. When playing games or watching movies with dark backgrounds its very visible.
I'm going to try and find out my options but if they are the same as last time (Return or pay for shipping to/from and be without a laptop) then I guess I'm going to be forced to go dell. I can't afford to keep sending these back and forth as Im sure I am going to get charged for Vista even though I never activated it (turned it on completely networkless and made sure not to type in my code but it was pre-activated meaning no refund for me). At least with Dell I can have them come onsite and swap my screen if I get a dud. I swear this has been a very frustrating experience, Ive never had so much issues with a LCD screen before.
Here is a pic below (not the best quality but I think you will get the idea)Attached Files:

I have the LPL0B0A and it`s awesome in every possible way: uniformly lid, super bright, minimal light bleeding and excelent viewing angles.
