    Hey guys,

I've heard the speaker quality on the NP5160 and 5165 is not too good.. how is it on the 8130?

    Thanks!

Most Sager machines are known for having poor speakers. I doubt the 8130 is excluded from that.

Totally acceptable speakers. Nothing fancy though. THX software makes them sound nice too.

I'm not sure where you got that from I have an 8170 and the speakers are fine. Laptops just don't have enough real estate for great speakers.

Not completely true. I've got a 4 year old Satellite with Harmon Kardon speakers that are amazing, and it's just a 14" laptop. Music sounds great--loud, clear, well balanced sound, including bass. I haven't heard any other laptop sound even 1/4 as good.

Laptops with great speakers are the exception, not the norm. I think at the present time, people lean towards Dell XPS or Asus N series to get decent sound. I didn't expect great things coming out of my NP5165, but thats ok; my sound is coming out of either an Altec Lansing 4.1 system, Bose IE2s, or Shure SE535s instead :p

My toshiba is always hooked up lately to an Altec Lansing Sat/Sub system so the goodness of the internal speakers has become moot.

While I'm sure some laptops are better than others speakers need to move air. The more air the better and for that you need size. Sure there have been strides in speaker technology but with speakers size does matter and laptops only have so much room for speakers.

People worrying about speaker quality on a laptop are kinda like people buying a sub-compact car and worrying about leg room. Sure there are some better than others but none are great.

I have to disagree: some laptops have such wimpy sound systems one is forced to use external speakers or headphones to hear audio from a movie or music. Other laptops have far more powerful speakers which are clearly audible in a large room. I suspect you've never heard the latter.

I guess it all depends on your standards. If sound quality to you is how loud a speaker is then yes some laptops have awesome speakers.

I think whether the speaker will be satisfaction to you is depend on your previous laptop .

example : my previous laptop is thinkpad T61 so speaker in 81xx series is a good upgrade . But then if your previous laptop is MSI with dyne audio system then im afraid its going to be a downgrade for you .

No, as an audiophile, I appreciate good quality sound. thanks for playing. ( I'm sure you've never heard the speakers in my particular model, or you wouldn't be prattling on as you are)

Back to the OP's concern. When people compare laptop sound quality they compare them to other laptops not vs real stereo speakers. Compared to each other, some are better than others, compared to real audio equipment, they all fall short. This is why there are tons of after market speakers out there. I have the 8170 and it sounds fine. The subwoofer helps (the 8130 doesn't have one) but if I want to really enjoy the full range of music I'd choose my stereo NOT my laptop. For the music played for games it does just fine.

It's totally false to suggest that all laptop speakers are equally bad.
To disprove this in .1 milisecond just listen to MSI laptops which have fantastic speakers. Other laptop makers have also put some quality speakers in including alienware and certain multimedia HP models.

It's also ridiculous to say that no one should care about the quality of them.
Maybe you don't, but that doesn't mean everyone should share your opinion.

Not to be rude, but if you don't care about the topic how about moving on to one you do care about instead of trolling and saying no one else should care either.

It's an area for improvement on sagers.

I assume you are reponding to me. I never said they were equally bad. My response to the OP was that one shouldn't expect too much from any laptop. I'm not sure why disagreeing = me not caring about the topic. You'd be much happier if you realize that there are other opinions in the world besides yours. IMO some are just trying set false expectations. My Sager is better than some laptops I've owned and worse than others but no laptop is like even the cheapest stereo I've owned. It's simple physics. Size matters when it comes to speakers. If you really want better sound then by some external speakers.

I will continue to give my opinion and you can keep giving yours. How about that?

Your satisfaction really is relative, though. I came from an ASUS-like S96S, which has just about the biggest pile of crap for a set of speakers that it sounded like you were playing music underwater. That laptop got fried, so I used a crappy 8 year old Dell B130 for a short while, and I thought it had awesome speakers. Then I got my 8130, and now I think it is awesome.

    Then again, I'm no audiophile.

    considering the 8130 myself..

does the "subwoofer" on the bottom of the 8130/P151HM1 actually produce any additional bass noticable by the user? or is this just a gimmic..
