anyone have a nice set of speakers they'd like to promote? thinking of getting a set. i dont want like a home theater setup with giant speakers.. something along the lines of the Logitech z5500's..

any suggestions with a reasonable price tag?

edit: i'd like to keep it in the $150ish price range, but i'm sure i can easily be persuaded to go higher (just look at what i've got configured in my sig lol). i know the z5500 is upwards of $350 so those are just a dream atm.

looking for something in a 5.1 set up probably.. to hook up to my tv/pc. the less wires, the better lol. bit OCD about my cable management..

Any idea on size and price range? I've got the Logitech Z-2300's on my desktop system and they are easily the best PC speakers I've had. I have 5.1 surround sound for my home theater, but for the PC I've found either headphones or these speakers are the best you can get. They drive bass like no one's business. I used to bring people into my dorm back in my freshman year of college, close the doors and windows and play Sandstorm or basshunter. You could feel your ear drums being crushed by bass, it was (and is) impressive. They sound great at all volumes too, where cheap systems will sound like crap. The 200 watts of power really push them well.

For semi-portable speakers, I've got a logitech audiohub. It's not the best sound in the world, but it's much better than my xps m1530 can put out. The bass is respectable and it can do pretty high volume without getting muddy or distorted.

I'm also eyeing a set of the Z-305's depending on how good the Sager 8150 speakers are, because they're much less dock-ish and can be powered without external AC, unlike the audiohubs.

If you're not stuck on 5.1 I would suggest these speakers: Klipsch - ProMedia 2.1 Speaker System (3-Piece) - Black - KLIPSCH PRO. They are the best I've ever listened to in that price range. I don't actually own them, but my old roommate did, and they blew out my much more expensive setup. That, and they can easily be picked up for the lowest price at just about any Best Buy.

I'm kinda hooked on the 5.1 systems. I have I decent (what sounds decent to me anyways) 2.1 altec Lansing system. It's an older series that was given to me by a family friend when he helped me assemble my first hand built desktop system many moons ago.. But they're old now and kinda sound like they're going out so I want to upgrade :)

I have had a bose 2.1 system for years that I enjoy but was wondering what the price of home theatre systems was these days and if the p150hm can drive one since I have a 50" tv with no sound system...

i am curious as to what kind of connectors i will need.. do i need anything special? i'm sure i can just plug them into the headphone jack, but was hoping to be able to use these with the laptop, and the tv/xbox

If you are open to non-speaker suggestions, I bought a Fiio e7 USB dac and Sennheiser 595 headphones for about $200 total. You could probably even get a Fiio e5 and get the same sound since the 595's are low impedance. I don't think you will find a speaker system under $400 that rival that sound.

Get them from audioinsider. They're great. Of course...you may want a better source than the integrated sound chip. Maybe a DAC?

TV's usually have an audio out jack that can utilize one of those regular headphone-sized plugs. it would be just like connecting the speakers to your computer/laptop.

RCA to 3.5mm (headphone) jack wire would work the same way. not too many computer speaker systems even have an optical input/out, so if your system does then that would definitely be your best bet. optical would provide the best sound quality.
