    Hey Folks,

Finally got my hands on the new laptop yesterday and I'm pretty impressed so far. Still trying to figure out stuff with this.

The biggest problem I'm facing right now is that the speakers are not working. I'm not hearing anything at all from the speakers. When I plug a headphone in, the sounds work. So i know the drivers are working without any issues.

At times I can hear a very faint sound on the left hand top part which I assume is the left speaker.

My guess is the speakers are aren't connected properly or there's some electrical issues with my motherboard.

If anyone has any directions for me to get to the speakers, i would be grateful.

Just a bit disappointment that, this being a brand new laptop, I've to go through the dismantling process.

    Cheers.

Out of curiosity, did you get Window pre-installed or did you install it yourself?

The sound drivers are a bit finicky on how it selects output. The default Windows ones are usually a complete dud on selecting output between speakers/headphone-jack.
Grab the Obsidian driver tool here and update the sound driver with what it has and see how you go first.
If you want, you can try running a Ubuntu liveUSB and see if you can get sound out of it. Ideally you want to rule out hardware/physical problems first.

If it's hardware, you can check the speaker connector. It's located on the TOP of the motherboard (you'll need to remove the keyboard). It's a small connector just to the right of the big keyboard ribbon.
To get at it you'll have to remove 2 screws from the bottom then it can be popped out (gently!) with a small screwdriver through the keyboard locator hole.

I recommend grabbing the Service Manual from Palkeo's mirror here: https://repo.palkeo.com/clevo-mirror/P6xxHS/
It has detailed info on how to get under the keyboard. Do NOT do this unless you're comfortable with opening it up and don't mess it up as it may impact your warranty.

Last resort, shoot an email to Metabox and you can RMA it. They can send you a consignment note so you don't have to pay for shipping/courier back.

Good to see another Aussie Metabox/Clevo user

    Hey @Stooj,

Thanks for the response. Installed it myself. I downloaded drivers from Metabox site itself and installed them before connecting to the internet.

I will check with a live USB and see if I replicate the problem. I've already removed the keyboard and checked if i could identify the jack/cable. I'll also download a fresh Windows 10 ISO and test it later on.

RMAing is not an option right now as it's 5800km from Metabox's warehouse (I'm actually located in Colombo, Sri Lanka). So trying to figure out if it's just the speakers at fault then I can ask Metabox to ship those parts, which would be cheaper :)

    Cheers,

Grab the Obsidian Tool anyway. The Metabox driver site is rarely updated beyond the initial release. I'd also recommend disabling driver overrides from Windows Update built into Win10.

In that case, grab the service manual above and check out the connector first. Unfortunately, if you have to replace the speakers you have to disassemble the top top panel which is a pain to get to.

    Thanks @Stooj ,

I've already shot an email to Metabox/Affordable Laptops with regards to this issue. I'll download the drivers from Obsidian tool tonight and will check further tomorrow.

Though I'm in SL, I work for an AU organisation, so yes, Glad to be a fellow Aussi Clevo user :vbcool:

Ok, the latest update is this.

Uninstalled all drivers related to audio and reinstalled everything, still the same.

Then did a fresh clean install of windows using a copy created by the Windows 10 media creation tool, and did the installation of drivers. Still no joy.

Headphones work, speakers are very very faint.

Next checked the cable connectors for the speakers. They're fine. Connected securely. I'm not so sure on how to get the top panel out without dismantling the cooling system so I can remove the speakers n check.

I think there's some sort of issue with the cables.

The headphones have a dedicated audio amp in them, it almost sounds like the drivers in the chip for external speakers (that bypass the amp) are not working.

I'll be testing speakers today with some spares I have lying around. Will update here with my findings.

So the outcome is this. Even with another set of speakers I got the same volume level.

I removed the connector between the motherboard and the audio jack PCB and I was able to get somewhat higher volume from one speaker but the other remains the same volume.

Does this mean the fault lies with motherboard?

If you are sure all the software levels are up then most likely that's the case.

Sent it back to the reseller and they confirmed my suspicion. They had to replace the motherboard.

    Thanks everyone for your help.
