Fn+2 is to turn the fan speed up I think

Fn+2 is SRS WOW. Fn+1 and Fn+3 are for the fans :p

The difference is noticeable if it's on. Just play a song/mp3 and listen, hit the button, and if it sounds better (i.e., doesn't sound as if the music is coming from inside the laptop by the monitor), then it's on.

It's not the greatest, but it -is- better than when it's off. Off, music sounds the same as on my wife's dell d630. On, and it sounds more from the sides.

Other than that, I'm not sure if there is any other indicator that it's on.

I never used to have one but just recently, for no apparent reason, I now have an indicator in the top left of the screen that comes up with srs wow on/off (just like for volume/any other f key). Weird...

    Here you go:

However it only appears if you are looking at the desktop, and according to that, the sound is better with srs off...

I dont have the indicator on my 5793 either, but you can actually pretty easily hear it when you turn it (on / off) with Fn+2.
I havnt looked into this, but I believe SRS WOW is simply a preset of equalizers, plus for me it seems to boost the volume up a little more.

SRS WOW - Volume boost, less bass, more high's - "clearer" sound

no SRS WOW - volume lower, slightly more bass - more "dampened down" sound

edit: when you hear it like this, and it matches with your indicator - theriko, then its the right way around. I know this cause my MP3 also has SRS WOW, and turning it on basically does the same thing.

I agree with your description, but according to the indicator, it's the other way around...(the indicator could just be wrong...)

yes you do, it's in all 570ru series...
Play some music, then hit fn+2, you will hear a difference.

    thats fn+2, not fn+f2

You might need to have the hotkey program running to get the popup; you need it for all the other ones (touchpad, volume, etc), so maybe that's why you aren't seeing it.

I don't run it myself, because the program is all fubar with 120 dpi and I don't like the extra tray icon.

The SRS WOW makes the difference between a cave sound and a metal room one :p

It's better with SRS for treble, but bass is almost not there, either way.

If you don’t have the pop-up, you will need to download the hotkey driver for the 5796 ver. A1.04
