Hello guys and I'm back with another issue with my new 7970m (this one recently replaced a dead one), this card seems to hate my guts.

Any way, for some reason my 7970m randomly boots up in a permanent 99% utilization mode (I'm guessing some kind of loop) and if I try to run any thing that would use the dgpu or even the catalyst control panel it will give me an BSOD.
Now for the really strange part, if I reboot the laptop, eventually it will run normally, the 7970m will work perfectly it will even overclock to 1050 core 1500 memory stable for as many hours as needed. I've not oced it recently actually as I've not been very active with heavy games all I did was try to see if it was still a stable card.

It seems to boot to either situation completely randomly, some times it will run perfectly for days and then it will make me reboot the laptop 5 times before it runs normally.

Another detail is that it only BSODs if ULPS is disabled, if it is enabled it will not BSOD it will just hang indefinitely trying to open the programs that would use the dgpu, the OS stays responsive it just wont open the other apps.

Now for the context, this started happening to me in the 13.12 WHQL driver, and it still happens with the 14.1v1.6 beta. I just did a complete clean install and it did it again. Not sure if it helps but the intel driver is the 15338.

    OS is windows 7 x64.

I'm not sure as to what might be the problem because if it was an hardware problem it would not run perfectly for hours as long as it boots up, but it seems strange to be an software problem as well because it happened again even after an clean OS install + drivers.

I'll try the new drivers, and come back with some feedback.

I've no oc on the gpu, like I said before I am not playing any game gpu bottlenecked, I used afterburner to oc and I've already uninstalled. Btw the gpu was never oced by default I would oc and return it to normal clocks as needed.

I've never messed around with bios files, the bios of the 7970m is the stock rom. Either way it is this one View attachment Thames.zip .

Thank you for you answer btw :D

Edit: The toshiba drivers do not recognize the 7970m, it only installs the catalyst install manager.

Im sorry  , wrong link for toshiba ! here you go :) https://mega.co.nz/#!4pknQLaC!UFXURWicHkSaz8l-aKunt2K9bpgDSxELh1RQVHv06Is
this driver unlocked by asder , for use on non toshiba laptops.

your vbios is very old, this is first revision version 015.018 ! latest vbios for Clevo 7970m is 015.024 and it supports all gpu memory types . I can send to you latest stock vbios if you need , you will get a little performance boost and better hardware compatibility.

P.S. Sorry about my bad english , Im learning :p

Could updating the vbios to a newer stock one be a problem for warranty? If not I would be happy to update it.

I find it strange that the vbios is so old, I mean the gpu is like 2 months old directly from clevo ><

I did a clean install with the Intel drives you sent and it took a big while to bug but in the end it did bug again :/

I'll try with this new Toshiba drivers

Edit: Tried the Toshiba drivers, they now install but the catalyst control center says that it cannot start because no settings can be changed...

I've follow that guide every time I uninstall the drivers.

I'll try the vbios, if it does not work I might try to install windows 8.1...

Edit: I'm running 14.1 + recent vbios let's see how it goes...

There is some kind of problem with that bios, the gpu won't go over 450/300 unless I oc it and then return it to the stock clocks for example I oc to 860/1200 then reset the clocks and it will then work normal to 850/1200

Edit2: ok I take that back it is probably not the vbios as the original one is doing the same thing, driver problem?

Clean win 8.1 install, so far so good but since it was not a reliable bug I'll keep an eye out for it.

I miss the glassy windows though, and had to use a program to get the start menu back :/

Atm it is latest intel from you + ATI 14.1 + latest stock vbios.

That toshiba drviers didn't work on the win 8.1 either...

Thank you for all your help man :D

recently had a bsod on a startup as well. this following the 99% problem that i fixed by deleting the file out of registry.

all this happened after updating the latest amd drivers.
