I'm one of many with the SteelSeries keyboard upgrade (Sager NP9170), who is a little annoyed by the discrepancy between the keyboard icons affixed to the keys and their actual function (using the Fn key combinations to control hardware settings, like contrast, volume, sleep/wake, etc.).

Xotic was writing that a SteelSeries issued utility that would allow Fn key combos reassignment would be here by the end of the year, so I'm posting this thread so that when/if it finally arrives, everyone will be able to easily tell.

So if anyone has news on this, please post!

    Hey there,

Based on this post from Steelseries we are expecting by end of year. Unfortunately we won't know about compatibility with Sager installed systems until the software is available.

I emailed steelseries on this and haven't had much luck other then what Derek has already said.

In the meantime I have been using auto hotkey as a go between assigning volume, mute, and brightness to what you see on the keyboard and the ctrl key using the following script.

I actually paid this guy for the development of this because it was so useful. I hate that MSI, steelseries, and company's like xotic pc can't work together due to one waiting exclusive rights to a keyboard instead of selling more units of the keyboard on other types of systems.

Anyways I'm hoping for the program from steelseries to support the few of us that have this keyboard installed from the factory.

My P370EM order is still being built, but I may take that script and modify them to the Windows+ key instead... once I have the system to test it out, I'll post it up!

We do try as much as possible to have the cooperation you're looking for, unfortunately our hands are tied in most cases. We're still looking for a workaround beyond the scope of either of those companies, for the sakes of our customers. Haven't been able to come up with a way as of yet. We'll definitely keep everyone posted with what we learn though.

Thanks gaidin! Great idea on going with the ctrl instead of FN combination as a workaround! Thanks for making this available.

For reference purposes, I'm going to list the discrepancies here between the stock and SS keyboards:

Note with latest Sager HOTKEY driver update (necessary for Windows8), WINDOWS key and FN keys are SWAPPED (so when I refer to "Fn" below, the painted on image would be the Windows logo).

    SAGER DEFAULTS:
    Bluetooth Toggle: FnF12
    Brightness Decrease: FnF8
    Brightness Increase: FnF9
    Camera Toggle: FnF10
    CapsLock Toggle: FnCapsLock
    Control Center Toggle: FnEsc
    Display Toggle: FnF7
    Keyboard Backlight App: FnNumpad/
    Keyboard LED Decrease: FnNumpad-
    Keyboard LED Increase: FnNumpad+
    Keyboard LED Toggle: FnNumpad*
    LCD Backlight Toggle: FnF2
    Mute Toggle: FnF3
    NumLock Toggle: FnNumLock
    Play/Pause: Fn~
    ScrollLock Toggle: FnScrollLock
    Sleep Toggle: FnF4
    Touchpad Toggle: FnF1
    USB Port Power Toggle: FnPowerButton
    Volume Down:FnF5
    Volume Up: FnF6
    WLAN Toggle: FnF11

Now if someone could re write the script to allow the brightness meter to be shown like the volume one is. I looked at it but couldn't figure it out.

Still no release from steelseries. We're constantly keeping on eye on a release though.

Any Chance this is ever going to happen? I have been still using auto hotkey for a few select functions, but now I have a keybaord I can only use part of its functionality for short cuts.

I really hope some solution comes out on this and they actually make it compatible with all make and model laptops.

It's something that they're developing for their hardware as a customizable feature for them, so I expect that it is still in development, but no real word indicating a time frame since the initial suggestion of one. Unfortunately no more info than that.

Likely a scrapped project at this point. I wouldn't hold out hoping for it any longer.
