Just want to know if anyone else has placed an order that has been delayed due to the steelseries keyboards being out of stock (xoticpc). It would seem to me that such an event would have some discussion, but I was unable to find one.

I placed an order a few days ago with the Steel Series keyboard, and it says "Back ordered". No word from Xotic about it yet.

I just chatted with xoticpc, and it seems that the steelseries keyboard might be permanently out of stock, although their distributor has not not officially said anything about it. :(

Man, that sucks, and it's a huge deal to me. I HATE keyboards that aren't chiclet style, and will be using this computer to game a lot as well. This might make me consider going a different route.

The keyboards are still being sold on eBay, but for $105.

You also might want to check with mythlogic, they even mod it to fit your laptop upon request if you pay the labor charges.

I think this might have something to do with what Pro-Star posted on another thread about MSI stating that SteelSeries Keyboards can only be used in MSI laptops and if they're sold on other machines, they'll take legal action.

It seems odd, in a little over a week the price has shot up on part sites. I was previously able to find it for $65, although most places are out-of-stock.

But they can't do that. It's not illegal to buy something from someone and then resell it to someone else for a higher price. :p If that were the case, Apple computers would be half the price they are now.

This is the quote I received from Cedric S @ Xotic PC earlier.

"I have checked with our parts person, and we will not be able to get anymore Steel keyboards, as they have entered an agreement with 1 manufacturer, and if we would continue to modify them for other models it would be a violation of our agreement with our manufacturers. Im sorry but we won’t be able to upgrade your computer with a Steel keyboard."

Really? I received an email about 3 hours ago saying that I would have to wait longer for the keyboard upgrade

It basically said that they recommended that I remove the upgrade so that the laptop could immediately be shipped to me.

But if it's true that they can no longer do it, maybe they'll somehow get one last batch, or offer another keyboard?

The main reason why I wanted the steelseries was because of all the fast WPM nightmares. Being a programmer with a WPM of 110+, I would be pretty annoyed at frequent key misses.

EDIT: It appears that there are 2 keyboards left on ebay:

Yeah, it was an email I got this morning so if you got another email about it saying otherwise, then I'm not sure what's going on. I would like to get a Steelseries keyboard for my Sager since its a chiclet keyboard. So in either case I will look else were for one.

Have you tried the ebay link I posted above?
It seems to be the only place to get one.

We still have them, and we don't sell any MSI's we buy them off the market like everyone else so we don't have any specific agreements =)

Now I understand. It's an exclusive contract thingy. Basically, MSI signed an agreement with steelseries to have the keyboard designed specifically for them only and therefore it's an exclusive thing for them. It will still be perfectly legal for anyone to buy the part and install it as a DIY project. Just can't repackage it and sell it to other people at a higher price.

Will steelseries still release the fix for the mapping of the FN keys after this issue to fix the serious issue with the people that already have a sager with a steelseries?
