So I ordered an NP9150 with the new AMD 7970m on May 21st. I've been seeing ppl saying that the gfx card has multiple problems and isn't really compatible with the NP9150 and some saying it works fine...

I'm clueless on what to believe and what to do. Should I just downgrade to a 675m or just stick with the 7970m? Ill still be able to run most games on high settings for a couple years with the 675m also right?

But all in all, I have no clue what's going on right now, could someone please sum it all up for me and give me some advice on what to do? I'm hoping to receive my laptop before June 20th...

Nothing is wrong with the card, to sum up, there is a delay, and the driver is not mature. That's all, if you want to stick with last last year tech and need a computer soon, then go ahead and grab the GTX 670/675m. If you can wait a bit more and possibly even after June 20th, you should be happy with the 7970m

Jesus, someone needs to make a public service announcement about this :(

Just for the record, it IS compatible with Clevo/Sager laptops, and it works fine. There is *no* mass recall, just a delay involving some third-party components.

I'm currently posting on A Sager NP9170 with a 7970m, and just finished up some fantastic sessions of Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 with all the settings maxed to the max. If it weren't compatible I probably wouldn't have been able to do that.

Thank you for a clear answer! Haha, so many rumors and junk was going around in the "Update on Radeon 7970m" section that I didn't know what to think so I just made a freaking thread. Thanks for the input, sounds like I'm sticking with the 7970m and waiting.... I hope this post helps everyone else out too!

What the others said... There's nothing wrong with the card. There was a problem with a batch of them, but Clevo caught the problem before the cards made it to market. Because of that, there's a bit of a delay, but they should start shipping again soon. It's so much better than the 675m that it's easily worth the wait, IMO.

What about the issue of lossing performance because of enduro? I know it has been verified on the Alienware but not on Clevo. It looks like the card still runs decent and beats everything else out there. Still something to consider though. They may fix it with new drivers they may not. You could always get a 675 now and upgrade to the 680. Also you could wait and see how good the 680 will be, it is suppose to be announced around June 5.

Driver's need a timeframe to mature mate :) trust me even the GTX series from nVidia right now suffer from some illness in the drivers, while you game with them there is no issue but it lies within the deeper parts of the laptop. One example is the HDMI port on the laptop, the beta drivers HATE that port, at least for me. The official drivers that came with the card plays it fine but I lose around 8% performance all in all, so I decided to trade the HDMI for performance.

When things this new comes out you need to really wait around 6montsh before solid drivers come out, be it AMD or nVidia. I hope that helps :)

I downgraded to the 660M, upgraded to the 675M, and upgraded to the 7970M all last night. Mythlogic is a patient group...(thanks Jeff!)... :)

It will be worth the wait. I can always go 680M later if I want... ;)

I heard you cannot overclock the 7970m in Clevo because of not being able to turn off the igpu/enduro. Is this true? I have heard there was great over clicking room on the 7970m it would be a Shame to lose it. I know you can overclock it in Alienware.

o_0 why would you need Enduro to overclock? that stuff is used to save power and such. the 7970m overclocks like a king too I might say, the GTX675 is limited in the way it's a hothead to begin with, yet my temps at idle are cool 60s and on load high 70s, 76.5C at highest so far, and no I aint running furmark on it :p my render jobs are hot enough for it.

I think everyone is getting confused about Enduro and how it affects the GPUs performance. Right now, it appears immature drivers are affecting it. See this page of this post:

says who? I've come to the understanding, there is no set timeframe. any other knowledge of a date seems to be conjecture at this point, mainly because clevo won't say a thing about it. Does anyone have an official estimate from a reputable source?

It depends on who you're ordering from. If it's a Sager reseller (like XoticPC), I think they stated something around June 8-11 is when they expect the 7970M clog to flow again. If it's someone who builds their own systems, and thus relies on their own suppliers (not Sager), then their is no news at the moment. This is the camp that Mythlogic and Malibal fall into. I think they both let on that their would be some kind of update mid-week next week from their suppliers. It could be good news, or it could be bad news, but we'll see.

Thank you, this is what i was looking for. I got the impression about the builders timeframe too i guess from various chatter, i just wasn't sure whether that was still the likely outlook or not since there has been a lot of crosstalk among the various companies involved.

I plan on sticking it out and waiting for the 7970m I technically don't need it until September, but I would love to have before my trip in August. Anything sooner then that and I will be thrilled.
