Hey guys, So I got my 9390 a couple of months ago, and it's been flawless....until today. I just got home, got the kids settled in and hit the power button. Nothing happened. So I hit it again thinking I just didn't press it hard enough. Still nothing. As I hit the power button i was looking for some kind of life. When I hit the power button, the front power LED started to flash. When I pressed it again, the light came on solid.

I unplugged the laptop to sort of... flush any power in the system out (I'm ALWAYS plugged in, so the battery isn't even in the machine). After a couple minutes I came back, plugged it in, and it fired right up.

Once the machine fired up, I noticed that my wallpaper has changed to the default wallpaper (i"m running Linux Mint 16)... and the default view in the windows, doesn't have the side panel (I had to re-enable it).

Just wondering what this little hiccup was, if anyone knows? Hopefully it's nothing major I need to send the machine out for. I haven't done anything crazy with this machine at all. I gamed for about a week while on shutdown at christmas, but since then I have reformatted and run only linux now. The machine has one empty cd case under each rear "foot" to ellivate the back, so heat has never been an issue....

Any input would be great! This thing is my baby... I hope it's not sick...

    Thank,
    -RYknow

First time I've heard of something like this. If it happens again maybe give your reseller a call to see if their service team has any records of it occurring, if it never happens again though you have nothing to worry about. Computers do some strange random things sometimes.

Hey derek. Thanks for the response. Any chance your from the service team, or could research it further? I bought the machine from you guys! LOL.

It hasn't happened again yet, but I haven't used it yet today. I've been doing this for a long time now... So I know all to well the strange things that can happen. I'm not worried, till I see it again. Hopefully if it's going to happen again, it's before my warranty expires though... :(

Haha, always works out that way ;)

I'm not in the service team but I do hear just about every issue that can possibly arise from being in these forums and fielding calls all day and every day. I've heard of similar things in the past but nothing quite what you're describing. In just about every case though it was just a one off thing with the extreme cases being something bad with the motherboard, but those cases it would happen pretty consistently. So give it a shot to redeem itself, if it happens again feel free to contact us and we'll help you out.

    Sounds good Derek, thank you!

I was thinking about it, the issue with the wallpaper may have been my fault. I thought about it today and I think that I mistakenly moved the wallpaper jpeg to a different folder. So I think the issue is more just the random startup issue. Anyway, I agree. I'll be riding it out and see what happens. I'm on it now, and it started right up without an issue!

I have to say too. You guys over at xotic, I'm impressed. I love that fact that you guys are here (and I know... there are others) but you happened to just be helping someone randomly...and turns out I'm a customer. When it comes time for my next laptop, I'll be damn sure to come to you guys first! Thanks!! A+ for you and the whole xotic team!

It's a fairly common occurrence with the EC chip in laptops. As for what happened in your OS, not sure why Mint decided to default to those UI settings, but I don't think you have anything to worry about in terms of pending hardware failure. :)

There may have been a glitch or the brick detected a surge and shut off (it would need to be removed to reset the protection).
